It’s like he thought that makes it okay. The stupidity of this man is astounding. I kept saying I think his “character” is not far from his real life persona but I never thought it was even worse then I thought This is why the defense of "He didn't MEAN to be racist!" is always so hollow. MOST people don't mean to be racist, because they think racism is bad.... but they also define 'racism' as "stuff I personally wouldn't do." because "I'm not racist." Jim Cornette, the man in that audio, legit doesn't think of himself as racist. His behavior doesn't cross the line, because if it crossed the line, he wouldn't have done it. Right, and he does it there using the old "Why do WE have to suffer for things our ancestors did hundreds of years ago?" schtick that was stupid and tired and ignorant from the first moment anyone used it. It just about kills the "context" argument for using the n-word in the clip. |

I wonder what the wrestlers (and for that matter, guys like Falk and Austin Idol) think about this whole matter (Murdoch in particular, since he was the one Cornette made the comment about). Heck, I dont even think Dokken would want to be associated with this now (though they may not watch wrestling and dont know what happened).

Yeah, this is racist and there's no defending it. If people don't know it's racist and still read through this thread wondering why it's racist then at that point you have to take a good look at yourself in the mirror and wonder what kind of person you are. If you get the knowledge and then still say "why is that racist?" then there's a problem. It doesn't matter if you agree with why something is offensive, if it's offensive then you take that knowledge and learn from it.
And Cornette is a f***ing idiot. He's the worst kind of person when it comes to actually being in the wrestling industry.
Lastly, I saw a comment that said "wrestling is racist and water is wet" somewhere in here. Yeah wrestling has had racism in it's past but it's 2019. Get that the f*** out of wrestling then if it's still anywhere in there. Racism is no joke. Going by that logic, just because Coke used to have cocaine in it decades ago that means it's ok for it now. No it's not. Times change as we as a people do. Again, racism is no joke.

Can't speak for Billy, but Lagana clearly sees no issue with Corny. I'm almost positive they were in ROH together too. I GUARANTEE they all knew that this was on tape and still aired it until the backlash got heavy. It's been at least a month since that was taped. So I have a feeling those wrestlers are keeping quiet to keep their jobs. |

Before that, he used it to describe Big Bubba too. Jim, I know you are a fan of 80s wrestling, but some of it doesn't age well. |

The question is if mainstream media picks up on it. It's one thing if it's Russo (who's an out of touch racist) or Ed Ferrera (who made fun of JR), but it's another if it's Jordlynne Grace, Riho, or Justin Roberts. I bet Cornette's enemies though have a little smirk on their face if it does though. He has made a lot of enemies. |

You know at least some of them no doubt are wondering if they have the pull to make a stand, or if Corgan, etc, would back Jim instead. Furthermore, in addition to any offense taken, if I were a wrestler, I'd be furious that Cornette was possibly jeopardizing any chance of a TV deal or any future for this product. He's also a huge piece of trash eclipsing anything that happens in the ring, because the conversation is going to circle around to Cornette and what he does. How can you expect to shine under those circumstances? Cornette has a fanbase, a rabid one, but this can't be worth it. |

Someone on twitter speculated this was deliberate on the part of NWA... they get to immediately pull it and try to look like the good guys, and they open themselves up to a whole new audience that, um, appreciates certain aspects of Cornette's commentary. The NWA gets known as the wrestling company that's friendly to that, but they also have deniability they were seeking that audience.
I dunno, because I don't know if I believe they expected it to blow up. But it's possible.
