I actually hadn't seen the commercial until this thread and after watching it, I literally see nothing to get offended about. I mean, it's cheesy as f*** and looks like easy comedian fodder, but it's an expensive exercise bike, there's a niche crowd you're selling to in the first place. I seriously wish news outlets would stop reporting on this fluff projection "I'm saying it's bad so it's bad" Twitter nonsense. What in the f*** has Twitter done to deserve any credibility as a news source? That's like going to the YouTube comments section for informed opinions and ideas. It’s all that impulsiveness and irrationality in order to instigate people to react in kind. And it works. But I’d like to think people are getting bored and tired of that shit.

Found the commercial frigging hilarious. That "get me the F out of here" look on her face, the pretentious of it, loved it! It's insanely stupid and weird, but that's why I got a kick out of it. Not sure I get the anger, I mean I'm usually pretty PC nowadays but this felt more dumb than insulting. But, I don't have the same experiences as those who are mad so not like I can really bash them, sure there are reasons.

Are Peloton ads like the old Folder's commercials from the 90's?
I remember people wondering about the sex lives of these two clowns in 30 second coffee commercials. Even old ladies were like "Well are those two gonna $@%$ already?!"

Here’s what they didn’t tell you about the actresses life in the commercial. She is a horrible alcoholic and pill abuser. Despite her beautiful outward appearance she’s completely been overtaken by her demons. Her husband goes to work, kids go to school and she starts drinking. It starts with a few glasses of wine but then she’s raiding the liquor cabinet. It starts with a couple of measured shots and then right from the bottle.
The bike was a gift from her husband who is out of options. When she gets the urge to drink she hops on her bike. The other cyclists are a support system and she rides until she feels accomplished.
One year later she’s been clean since that Christmas morning. The bike helped change her life

As someone mentioned, the look she gives the camera (the one that's gone viral) legit resembles someone who is being held captive. I have no idea what she was going for with that look. Even still, I wouldn't have even noticed that facial expression, or the commercial itself, if it didn't become such a huge topic. It's meaningless, and not surprisingly outrage/cancel culture took it to an absurd/comical level.
If you look deep enough into anything you can find fault in it. This is a non-story, but unfortunately that is not how the world works anymore.
And FYI, as someone who has trained people before and been around fitness/health freaks for many years, I can say buying exercise equipment for someone who is already in shape can be nice gesture that would go highly appreciated. Buy me a damn bench press, and I'd be thrilled.

I think I've seen more people mad at people being mad than people actually being mad. That's always how it goes here.

I don't think I have ever seen an excercise commercial that actually featured people that look like they need excercise. How is this new?
Oh, right. Because everyone is offended by everything now.
Imagine how they would have spun this if they had used a fat person. They wouldn't have even finished airing it for the first time before someone was crying about bodyshaming.
I absolutely loathe the times I live in.

To piggyback off that quoted comment, I've seen more people offended by the concept of people being offended by this commercial than actual people being offended by it. Most of the people I've seen who have said something negative about it have just made fun of how bad/silly/bizarre the commercial is.
If anything, I'm giving credit to the actress in the commercial, Monica Ruiz, for having fun with it and turning into the skid.

I get that is seems silly to get the actress in the ad a piece of exercise equipment when she already looks so damned good, but it doesn't have to be "You are disgusting with your 1/2 lb of body fat". It can be a "you wanted a new way to exercise at home" thing.

The most I've seen regarding this ad is that Twitter thread by a guy named "Clue Heywood" that's just him posting photoshopped images of the Peloton bike placed in increasingly absurd locations around the home.

The Christmas one still annoys me more. “Y’all think we were playing??? It’s Christmas morning! Riders around the world, we ride in 3..2...1”. What the f***. I run miles every day and the only thing the soundbit in the commercial would encourage me to do is chuck the bike out the window. “All of The Lights” by Kanye doesn’t help, commercial people don’t know how to make f***ing commercials.

My initial reaction wasn't necessarily offense, rather that the concept of a year's weight loss journey for such an already slim woman to end up basically having no visible change was a bit absurd. After I thought about it for a while, though, I kind of figured weight shaming can go both ways so meh.

I actually saw it for the first time, last night. There was nothing to imply that the guy was pressuring her to get in better shape. It truly is much ado about nothing.
That being said, if anyone ever got me one, or any kind of exercise machine, I'd enjoy it, since I like that kind of stuff.
