Same reason a lot of them dislike Van Hammer, probably. Young, pushed, probably paid well, even if the payment resentments wouldn't kick into heavy gear until later than his arrival. Irony being thst unlike Van Hammer, who stunk in the ring and couldn't even play the damn guitar (the crux of his gimmick), Wright had the ability to back up what they wanted him to do. Especially dancing. Who knows what it was but dang it, it was something else.

They probably could not understand why the hell a very young foreign kid would get that much of a massive push. It was different than Erik Watts or Randy Orton who they probably knew before. He also looked like a boy band type of kid which probably also did not go well with the purist veterans. Yet they had no problem with Bagwell getting a big push, despite being just as green, just as boyishly handsome and nowhere near as good in the ring. Amazing how people won't stiff, bully or bury you when you're friends with the main event, Sting and Luger in Bagwell's case.

Hammer was also a colossal douche, that probably had a lot to do with people hating him. I still can’t believe the guy complained about having the lowest rank in MiA, even though it was meant to be a pun and not an actual indication of his placement in the group.

I mean, he was a little dorktastic but wacky foreigners has always been a popular trope. I thought he had promise, but wasn't clamoring for him or anything. He at least didn't stink up the ring the way Eric Watts did.

But, like, what was everyone's problem with this 18 year old German kid who hadn't been employed by the company for that long? I think you’ve answered your own question right here. The veterans, regardless of their stature, most likely resented his perceived push at their expense.

The inevitability of getting replaced is a hard pill to swallow for even some of the best workers. He might have been the first super young guy in the Mid 90's to make some of the older pros scared for their spots.
