I’d love to read this someday. Bret seems like a great storyteller. And I guess I’m not surprised he comes of a little full of himself. Most authors of autobiographies do. The act of writing an autobiography is inherently egotistical.

It's both a great read for the wrestling stuff and inadvertently hilarious at times with the tears in their eyes and all that.

At least his opinion of himself does not go as high as Mick Foley's.

Wonder how a second book would look? Now that he has seemed to let a lot go and made amends. When I met him at a meet and greet he said about writing a 2nd book. That was back in 2014 though.

It's my favorite wrestling book. Bret is as good of a storyteller on paper as he is in the ring(which is saying a lot.)
It's been a long time since I read it, but I remember really being able to feel the sense of isolation of being on the road, and the heartbreak of losing so many people close to him, the sadness of which gets doubled because the stories Bret tells gives you a real lively sense of these guys. It reminds you that these were more than wrestlers we watched on TV, they were human beings with personalities.
He wrote a lot about cheating on his wife, which can be uncomfortable to read, but I think that's him being totally blunt and honest, and admitting what he did wrong and his regrets.
All in all, a very good read but also pretty damn sad too.

Just my thoughts after reading it He has some memory or he took some really detailed notes about everything and every match. Hell, he can even remember what he had for dinner when in Japan in the 80s. He doesn't half have a high opinion of himself...but maybe he's right...? For big tough guys, there's alot of wrestlers who get tears in their eyes. It became an absolute joke the amount of times that phrase was used, surely Bret himself must have been taking the piss. He did a hell of a lot of shagging. There's an awful lot of bastards in the wrestling world. For everything Bret did, he's a saint compared what seems like a industry of bullies. He has nothing but praise for Owen. I was surprised that Bret was the second youngest male of the children. I was under the impression he was one of the older kids. That must have made the older brothers jealous as f*** that their 2 youngest brothers did the best. Hes not shy about calling Bruce out. I imagine he (and some of his other siblings) must have been raging when he saw what was wrote about him. I can see why Bulldog never got to be WWF champ despite everyone in the UK wishing it. If you're headlining the biggest show ever in your own country and winning a title, don't be a dick and spend the weeks beforehand getting high on crack and nearly f***ing it up. Sad to hear Christmas with his kids. Sad to hear how the ultimate warrior seemed indifferent to a make a wish kid and Razor dismissing a kid dressed up like him for an autograph. Like I said, despite his faults,Bret was grateful to the fans and would make time for them. He shagged alot of woman that weren't his wife. The memory is very good because Bret used to record his thoughts on tape using an old dictaphone back in the day. He trawled through these recordings to write the book. He seemed like a nice guy embroiled in a profession of thugs and carnies.

Is "tears in (person's) eyes" a Canadian expression?

Bret's cool as hell to meet, if you ever have the chance. I've heard mixed reviews. Sometimes he's said to be super cool, other times people have said he was really quiet and aloof. As a Canadian wrestling fan, though, meeting Bret Hart at some point has to be on my bucket list.

He had some dvd out that had Vince on the cover. He would put like devil horns on it and a black eye on Vince. Btw he signed for everyone. The store tried to cut the line. I was in the part that wasn’t supposed to get an autograph, but I stayed in line and he kept signing for everyone. He’s a stand up guy, who are we to doubt Bret Hart???

To me, it's by far the best wrestling book ever written.

He was quiet when I met him, too. My fiancee and I met him at a comic con in 2017. He apologized to me, for having an ace bandage on his hand, and couldn't shake hands well, with it. I paid for an extra picture, for my brother, and he asked me if he should sign his with all hearts. He talked to us for a few minutes, since there was no line. When I gave the vendor my camera, for the picture, both he and Bret thought it was blurry and not worth the price, so he took about 5 pictures of my fiancee and I, with him.

Wonder how a second book would look? Now that he has seemed to let a lot go and made amends. That might be awkward Prologue: remember who I wished Shawn and Vince would die and that I’d have nothing to do with them? Yeah well... chapter one: I get that call for the Hall of Fame... The table of contents are just names of women he wants to bang Chapter 2: Melina, greatest wrestler in the world! Épilogue: f*** Seth Rollins Chapter 4: Triple H is not that damn good Chapter 10: Nope, Triple H is still not that damn good

I was waiting for a 4/10 at the end of your thoughts I mean, I get the meme and I enjoy it, but you have to really hate him or reading in order to even jokingly give it a 4/10. It's a tremendous book. For all the crap he gives out, he gives himself a lot too, and like said in the OP he's a saint compared to the tales of woe we know about SO many others in the business.

Yeah, it was just about the meme. I agree with you about the book. Bret is in my top 5 favorites of all-time but even if he wasn’t, it’s a tremendous read. I believe I’ve read it 3 or more times and each time I do, I can’t put it down and finish it in a few days. This thread makes me want to read it yet again.

I've always said that if this book got adapted into a film, whomever got casted as Vince or Dynamite Kid would likely have a Best Supporting Actor nomination waiting for them. Bret really captures how "off" both guys are/were in so many ways.

It would be fascinating to see an actor tackle both roles.
