Stephanie McMahon would love to see CM Punk and AJ Lee back in a WWE ring. The company’s chief brand officer has opened up about the possibility of seeing the couple – who met and married after their time in WWE – back as part of the roster four years after either of them were last seen on Raw or SmackDown. Speaking in a conference call, Stephanie told Metro.co.uk: ‘I personally enjoy watching both of them perform. ‘I think Punk’s been pretty vocal that he’s not interested in an in-ring return right now, but for sure, that would be interesting.’
She added: ‘And I would love to see AJ Lee back in the women’s division.’ It has been four years after either of them were last seen on Raw or SmackDown.
Stephanie – whose father is WWE owner Vince McMahon – also heaped praise on AJ’s contribution to the early days of the women’s evolution, and cited her storylines with the likes of Punk, Daniel Bryan and Kane as some of the company’s ‘most interesting’ plots. ‘I think AJ Lee was an incredibly compelling character,’ she said. ‘Some of our most interesting and intriguing storylines were with AJ, and I think she deserves as much credit as every other woman on our roster.’ They met and married after their time in WWE
The star continued: ’Nobody should be overlooked, and that’s not the goal to overlook anybody’s name. Every single person is a huge reason for why this happened. ‘You know, I’m a big fan of AJ Lee’s, I really am.’ Meanwhile, the WWE head honcho insisted the company is still fully committed to its women’s division and making sure there is an opportunity for their female stars to be a success in the industry.
She added: ‘I think our women’s roster has never been deeper, especially when you factor in NXT in addition to Raw and SmackDown, and I think there’s always an opportunity to focus on the depth of that roster and to give everyone the chance that they deserve.’

With AJ Lee, it was weird. Up until Nikki actually eclipsed AJ’s reign in late 2015, she would get mentioned on WWE TV a lot. To the point where some assumed she’d be back.
After that though, she’s been erased. With Punk in WWE’s relatively good graces, that is changing. She contributed so much to the division, even if she was restricted by booking.
