I think 98% of the AEW fanbase would know more about his pre-WWE Mox days rather than the whole Ambrose thing. That’s kind of what I meant when I say they knew he was always capable of this run. The only time WWE really got close to it was in FCW, for goodness sakes, main roster was either Shield (which was great), what was ostensibly meant to be this John McClane everyman (but they leaned too hard on the gags) and... whatever the hell that heel run was that essentially ran him out of the company.

Its funny as a fan to think Moxley assumed he would be booed.

So the Moxley name came from him getting a booking having no name and the Booker thinking he looked like James Van Der Beek in Varsity Blues.. so he was supposed to be Jon Moxen but the Booker got the name wrong
Also learned that Mox and Nick Mpndo are making a movie together

I thought Aubrey laughed way too much early on, but then got more comfortable. I'd also like to hear Tony more. He felt like a weird commercial guy.

I think 98% of the AEW fanbase would know more about his pre-WWE Mox days rather than the whole Ambrose thing. Aware of its existence? Sure. Aware of what it entailed? Not necessarily. I think it's more reasonable to think that the AEW fanbase understood that the Ambrose we got in the Shield's debut and the Ambrose/Bane bullshit we got in the tail-end of his WWE existence were two completely different beasts, and that the man behind both characters was breaking free from the restrictions holding him back from the greatness he could achieve. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if the likes of Brodie Lee and EC3 get huge pops in their transitions to AEW. Hell, even Shawn Spears got a massive pop on his arrival at Double or Nothing, and he was just as relegated as the next guy.

I would imagine not that many people are actually familiar with Mox's pre-WWE work in detail given by and large I remember the response when WWE had announced signing him was, "Who?"
As opposed to Seth where the general response was, "Why?"

The real way you can tell a lot of people weren't really familiar with Mox's pre-WWE work was when he worked the Unsanctioned match with Omega, and a lot of fans were really shocked at some of the things they were doing to each other, when it was actually toned down from the style of match Mox would have been doing in his deathmatch days.
Sure, some might have known that his pre-WWE name was Jon Moxley in an answer to a trivia question sense that became relevant when he left the company, but he wasn't blowing the roof off the MGM Grand based off his CZW work.

Aubrey always comes across like a pretty cool gal. Glad they get along so well with the wrestlers.
I knew aspects of Moxley's story, but I hadn't realized he had found himself in such a slump. It makes me wonder how many wrestlers out there end up in a spot of good, but with no name recognition. Guess that was the fate guys likes Sammy Guevara and Marko Stunt were trying to avoid when they made a point of trying to actively venture anywhere and everywhere they could reasonably get to, but it sounds like Moxley had tried that, too, with the Puerto Rico gig. There's no science to what will and will not put you on folks' radar.

I think we knew that Mox had definitely hit a depression wall during his WWE career, but what surprised me was him saying he was already at this point during the bear angle with The Miz. That was Summer 2017, which was two years before Double or Nothing, and several months before he went down with the triceps injury that nearly killed him. That's two years of absolute misery, that we now know of. Could have been even longer, given he was doing this wacky shit back in 2014 when The Shield first split.

I'm sure he probably had some high points during that, too, but that was probably the "this isn't me" point that would only get worse later.

There's no science to what will and will not put you on folks' radar. I suggest you try to find Mox's best of the super indies shoot he did before signing with WWE and he goes into more detail. Basically, when he was younger he had a WWE deal all but locked up and Johnny Ace hot him booked in Puerto Rico. Mox was really cocky about everything and just started doing a lot of drugs in Puerto Rico which made him lose a lot of weight and look awful. Johnny Ace called him and said they were concerned about his look so Mox worked double tine to get back in shape and by the time he did the deal was off the table. This caused Mox to cope by going on a bender when he got back to Ohio... which was also fueled by the fact that he couldnt get bookings outside of small Ohio indies. He actually credits Drake Younger/Wuertz for getting his career going.

I love that Mox bothered to wear the eyepatch for this.

It isn't a bad interview by any means, but he just kept going on and on and Tony kept quiet and Aubrey tried to interject and he just kept going.

It isn't a bad interview by any means, but he just kept going on and on and Tony kept quiet and Aubrey tried to interject and he just kept going. So I just finished it and noticed a lot of jump cuts when he was talking and yeah I agree that he really did seem to want to go on and on but I think honestly...it's because he finally can. He can talk and be himself. I do wish Tony had talked more but I liked the way Aubrey conducted the "interview" I used quotes since it really felt more like a casual chat. All in all I really liked it and I look forward to more episodes.

It sounds like the most obvious thing ever, but Cody's just such a regular dude.
