I expected this. I like AEW, but they need to dump the silly shit. It's not drawing and it's not going to draw. They claimed that they were going to have a "real sport" feel. f***ing do that and dump this, "OMG SHEZ AN ALIEN LOL BOOP" and Dark Order shit. The reaction to that angle alone last night should be enough for them to pump the brakes on it. Do I think they will? No, and it's going to continue to hurt them.
What's really scary is that they won't have a new show for a couple of weeks. I wouldn't be shocked if that rating is even worse. I kinda agree with Meltzer on this week being a 'tipping point'. Like he said, I don't expect AEW to go out of business any time soon, but I think that NXT is going to beat them for quite a while.

And I think she's a great wrestler with a ton of potential, but the casual viewer is going to cringe and change the channel over the "alien/boop your nose" shit.

I'd figure the January 1st show will be a pretty big rise for them. No NXT that week, being on the 1st didn't really hurt Raw a couple of years ago (now, 31st certainly did, but I'd imagine that's far more of a party night than the day after), plus there presumably won't be anywhere near as much going on in the news. Plus they're advertising it around Moxley, Jericho, and Cody doing stuff and those are pretty much their three biggest names.

Was about to bring up that Meltzer speech he cut but you did it before me. Over the past month he's been saying more and more about his AEW opinion and this week he really solidified why I'm not as hyped about Dynamite as a lot of others. A lot of that silly stuff I'm just not feeling and it's not that it's silly but it's more of the word, just lame. Sure a lot of people like it and that's cool but for me it's just something I don't wanna watch. AEW's going to be around a good amount of years I say but they need to find out exactly who they are within the next 10 months. Before Dynamite started I said that they didn't feel like they had their own "identity" and now I can say I still sort of feel that way but part of it looks WCW light but another part has some of that bad WWE silly stuff I don't like. I don't know. Just not feeling some things. It's hard to describe.

They said sports-like matchmaking, and that has so far proven entirely the direction they took with the win/loss records. Still not sure why anyone expected the people behind Being the Elite to put out a hard, serious product.

I think Statlander is helping the female demo, as for the Dark Order goes, if it continues not working then have Moxley destroy them.

AEW's audience isn't guaranteed enough to show up when something as major as what happened yesterday is happening. Also the quality of the show is getting kinda shakey if I'm being honest.

Wasnt NXT comercial free? Also Rhea vs Shayna on free tv was like the equivalent of Nitro giving away Goldberg vs Hogan imo That's just ridiculous. Rhea vs Shayna has been built up for 2 months now. It's been a match fans have wanted to see. Plus NXT doesn't do monthly Takeovers so this was as close to PPV as they were going to be getting until February.

Are NXT and AEW even doing a show next week? AEW are not on the air at all, NXT will have some taped matches.

AEW need to pull the trigger on Moxley. Back in the poll I did on who should be AEW's face between him, Cody, and Omega, Omega solidly won. With the way he's been booked that isn't going to be viable for a while. And Cody seems just completely against the idea. So they need to pull the trigger on Mox more than just him being a hot face - he needs the show structured around him and Jericho. He needs the Austin push and everything else can come second.
Hell, turn Omega heel against him.

I feel another factor is the shows seems a bit filler right now with the big gaps of the PPVs. It just seems like we've been waiting for Moxley and Jericho to feud for the last month.

I don't want it to happen, but I'm gonna bet that AEW will never hit 850,000 in 2020. I'll take that bet

Not too surprising, although I initially thought it would end up closer between the two shows.
Still, I think whislt AEW is producing a great show week in week out, they are still finding there identity.
Alot has improved since the debut of Dynamite and unlike some, it looks like TK and co. are taking things on board as they go.

I think it’s a combination of the “silly” gimmicks like the Dark Order and whatever Brandi is doing, and also the fact that they did not at all present and establish the Bucks and Omega as superstars as they should have.
The Bucks and Omega have been presented as run-of-the-mill wrestlers when they should have gotten substantial pushes out of the gate to establish them to the “causal” audience that is not as familiar (or familiar at all) with their work. Because of that, we are 3 months in and their only real “stars” on the show are still just Jericho, Moxley and Cody.

Crazy that a show that built up two big matches more than a week drew more fans huh. Jericho/Jungle Boy had two weeks and SCU/Bucks barely had any build. I get they have more of an uphill battle, but they really need to do better.
Shit, this week Cody already beat The Butcher and the Blade after losing last week. Not that WWE is great with storytelling anymore, but look at Team Hell No vs the Shield. It took weeks for Bryan and Kane to find the right partner to finally beat the Shield and it felt HUGE. Compare that to Cody getting Darby and winning immediately. All to lead to a well received match between the two again.
