Think it was pretty predictable this week - AEW was advertising some things but nothing really that big a deal while NXT was going all out and had the commercial-free gimmick, plus the other news going on was probably going to take away a lot of the less diehard viewers while NXT definitely had the more, "Must see this live," card this week.

Haven’t been able to watch all of AEW yet, but I do think this was deserved.
Just an awesome show last night all the way around.

Given you know what was going on I'd say AEW should have won this week given more older people was watching that than younger people but apparently in this case NXT still slid through. It's pretty impressive to me. As always they had a better hyped show and more than anything, NXT continues to be dope.

NXT is by far the best wrestling TV show

Given what was going on, this is a good number for both shows.

I would be VERY curious to see how the overrun in particular did on viewers. I'm almost positive that's what tipped it for NXT in the demographics because by all accounts like 250,000 people tend to jump to NXT for that anyway and given this week everyone knew it'd be Baszler vs. Ripley there I have to imagine it was even higher than normal. I mean, I typically don't bother with the NXT overrun but I made damn sure to this week, I imagine I'm nowhere near the only one.

NXT was stacked and had a 9 min overun. To huge factors this week. Both overall good shows. I expect a lot of close weeks from now on.

There's no "yeah, but" with this either. NXT didn't have the bump from Survivor Series or main roster stars to boost the rating. This was 100% NXT getting the better numbers.

Moving to TV really screwed over non US viewers. Nothing to do with ratings but everyone is saying how awesome it is in here and I have to wait til Friday to see it since it's shown on the network in the dead of Thursday night!

Nah, each week we're gonna see a new excuse no matter what. Once people started using the "NXT promoted a better show of course they won" excuse that sets a trend lol.

And that's honestly probably not looking to change, especially in the UK where when the switch from Sky to BT Sport happens, NXT is inexplicably not going to be included with that.

While beating AEW is great for WWE, a more significant effect is the the downward trend in AEW viewership causing WWE wrestlers who were thinking of jumping ship to AEW think twice.
They'll have to ask themselves if they're willing to burn that WWE bridge to go to a company that could very well be gone in 2 years if it remains a small niche show and TNT gives them the boot, and at this point is only going to be seen by about a third of the audience as WWE's main shows.
Or they can stay where they are and get financial security with WWE given their 5 years of TV money coming in. AEW will have to offer significantly more than WWE does to lure anyone remotely considered at top talent away at this point.

Good for NXT. They hyped the shit out of this for the month of December and they got the results to showcase that they are on the right path. Don't talk about overrun, Survivor Series or any of the talking points that was used weeks ago
NXT has been slowly gaining on AEW in every facet and now they have the rewards for their efforts. Will the numbers go back to more 50/50? Most likely. NXT deserves to bask in this for a bit until they get back to work in the new year.
Anything other then they did good this week congratulations is hating

What's quite hopeful here is that the numbers for either show did not take any significant slide because of that other big thing that was happening last night. Last night showed where the baseline is for either show in terms of ratings, I think. Things for either should only get better...at least, on paper.
The tale to be told, though, is in how hard NXT had to work to win vs. AEW. AEW is not in that state - yet - where every match has to be on the level of a Wrestlemania main event in order to win the night. They can afford, even now, to throw a couple of preliminary bums into the ring in front of their crowds and not take flak for it. NXT can't: it took two main-title championship matches, in one of which the title changing hands, to pull off the 18-49 win. They can't do that every week, and NXT needs more than one defection from the main roster to keep up the frenetic pace it's putting through its rotation without risking injuries.

So no credit is given for actually having the ability to stack a card and advertise in advance You advertise to get viewers, that's basic 101.
