MOAR of this type of stuff please 2020 wrestling world. It's very sad to see how far Aleister Black as fallen, his gimmick was very similar to the stuff in these images in NXT (especially that live band entrance at TakeOver!) Fast forward to the end of 2019 and Aleister is hidden in a backstage room 'PicK-ing a FighT-uh with' Buddy Murphy in a no-sell spot-fest in the pre-show of TLC. They systematically took everything great about Black away and made him a generic monster face that nobody in the live crowds knows anything about. We can all agree, simply judging by the TakeOver WarGames 'say my name' match (2 of NXT's greatest 'characters' which made literally everyone buy into the match 100-- probably was the MOTY I think in 2017 if I recall correctly) that workrate by any definition, Black and Dream have workrate in spades. But the fact that Black's pretty marginalized (sorta like Kushida or Pete Dunne are NXT-- more 'good workrate' guys I'd argue) shows clearly that a good storyline/gimmick makes the difference in fans caring about any given match. Like, it sounds common sense, but if he had an actual storyline people would care about him more! I still can't explain Black's booking on RAW-- stick this pure loner, Undertaker-type guy in a tag team with Ricochet, then slow-push him like nobody's been slow-pushed before to where his first TLC ppv match was against some random guy that knocked on his door backstage??? I'm not a booking expert by any means, but it seems like his NXT run has been far superior judging by the year he's been on WWE main. Pete Dunne has a better gimmick when he was the UK Champ, especially with the title in the teeth ring entrance. Him losing the title to Walter I thought was gonna set up some bouts on NXT US against Imperium with him as the multi-man tag team leader but that never materialized after Survivor Series. So now-- he has no gimmick aside from being a great wrestler. It's an epidemic, and NXT is not immune in the WWE universe.

Now idk whose idea of what Black is doing now be it creative or as rumored Black himself but it stands I agree that they had a fantastic oppurtunity practically outta the game and seemingly they were going with it during the Dream Vs Black feud and emphasis how different the two are. WWE had two choices in which to take a direction with Black...either delve into more darker aspect of the character or just straight up make him generic hard hitting wrestler #49590 and leave it to them to choose the much less interesting road to travel with him. Something I will say though I anticipate him in WWE early next year but those unaware of him should both keep their eye on him and watch his stuff on youtube because Killer Kross is gonna change the game so to speak as far as character work goes in the E because what they should be doing with Black is what Kross does on his own for his own character and if/when he gets to the E he will no doubt continue to do it and it is gonna catch on and trickle through out because Kross is gonna catch alot of eyes when the majority really catch on to his youtube stuff. And people are gonna look at it and I bet the first things thought and said are gonna be THAT IS WHAT ALEISTER SHOULD BE DOING!

Yes, I love a good technical match, but i mainly love wrestling for the stories and characters. The WWE has the best wrestlers it ever has, but at the same time, there are just so few characters anymore. I am not saying my preference is superior at all, but I care more about "why" guys are fighting, as opposed to seeing two guys having a good match for the sake of it, which seems to be 90% of the WWE now. Why not both? NJPW has engaging characters and fantastic wrestling People say njpw is only workrate. But they never watch the promos. They are not following it truly NJPW has the big time production. Main event names. Great wrestling. And their roster feel larger than life. WWE has the best roster ever but the booking. I do like how over roman is nowadays though

People do not get that wrestling is not just the moves it is getting the crowd into what you are doing. Hacksaw Jim Duggan gets more from a thumbs up and haymakers than ricochet does with al those flips Pac can get more from his moves than ospreay ever does because pac builds up anticipation that the red arrow is the end. While ospreay does cool moves. The young bucks would get crickets in koruakuen doing all these spots but when they slowed down. Started selling. And were just 2 dickbags in the elite they would get better reactionsm A crowd needs to buy that you believe in what you are doing. This goes for both promos and ring work. But guys like Jeff Hardy circumvent this by body language and well charisma

i'd rather watch a character/wrestler i'm interested in who may have a more limited moveset but sells injuries and makes you think they are seriously hurt when hit by the opponnent than blandy mcblando who can do things no one has ever seen in a ring before, shakes off everything dished out to them (in order to perform another amazing move) and the personality of dry paint. well ok I might watch blandy once or twice if the moves are cool and all but once it becomes a regular match occurrence and I don't care about the wrestler yet they become fast forward fodder.
non wwe example- i'd much rather watch a marty scrull match than a wil osperey match as I enjoy marty's character while I have no clue what osperey's is despite all his flashy moves.
