Just realised that I can watch MLW in the uk on one of our free sports channels.
So can anyone give me any of the back story’s to help me get into it.
Obviously I know a few of the wrestlers from different stuff but nothing from there MLW history like Pilman jnr, MJF, TJP, Harry Smith, ACH.

There really isn't a whole lot that needs a good deal of context, as they just wrapped up their PPV last month where a lot of storylines culminated, but their factions are one of their big selling points, so that's what I will emphasize. The recent block of tapings revolve around the Opera Cup, a tournament last won by Stu Hart in the 50s. The story is that Davey Boy Smith Jr. inherited the cup from the Hart Family, and decided to donate the cup to MLW in order to crown a new winner fo the tournament.
Contra Unit: Comprised of MLW World's Champion Jacob Fatu, Joseph Samael, Simon Gotch, and Ikuro Kwon. Their gimmick is basically a global syndicate of criminals. Hence why all of the members portray different extremist gimmicks based on their nationality. Recently feuded with the alliance of "Filthy" Tom Lawlor and the tag champions, Ross and Marshall Von Erich. However, Lawlor turned his back on the Von Erichs on the recent Thanksgiving episode of Fusion, hence the segments of Ross chasing Lawlor through NYC.
The Dynasty: MJF, MLW Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone (this is their midcard title), Richard Holliday, and Gorgon. They are rich dudes. What more needs to be explained about a stable of one percenters?
The Hart Foundation: Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Brian Pillman Jr. Until recently, this was a trio with Teddy Hart that primarily feuded with the Dynasty, but Teddy Hart left MLW after the last tapings. Still, this rivalry was implied to be the reason why MJF and Hammerstone were seeded against each other in the ongoing Opera Cup, and both members of the Hart Foundation are in the tournament semi-finals...
Injustice: MLW Middleweight champion Myron Reed (basically their Cruiserweight title), Kotto Brazil, and Jordan Oliver. A collection of misfits that feel disrespected by MLW management, and have been known to attack referees and announcers if things don't go their way. Comparisons to the Nation of Domination are very apt right down to Oliver being the Owen of the group, especially with Myron Reed adopting the old chest protector gimmick. Spent most of their run feuding with other middleweight midcards like Gringo Loco and Zenshi, but essentially leveled up in the last tapings where Myron Reed took the Middleweight title from Teddy Hart after interference from Contra Unit. Recently, they vowed to crash the Opera Cup after being designated as alternates in the tournament, but so far have yet to do anything as the 1st round wraps up.
Promociones Dorado: This faction was headed by Selina De La Renta, and comprised a lot of lucha talent that was active up until the PPV last month, including Los Parks, Bestia 666, and Jimmy Havoc. However, the faction seems to have fizzled after LA Park came up short against Jacob Fatu for the World title, with LA Park accidentally Spearing Selina through a table. However, De La Renta has been negotiating with Gino Medina in trying to add the upstart luchador to her faction, but so is her long term rival Konnan. Meanwhile, Havoc is still embroiled in a rivalry he picked up during his time in the faction with Mance Warner, and now every taping has him and ol' Mancer dueling it out in various gimmick matches. They just had a Blindfold match on the latest episode of Fusion, and the next block of tapings will see them in a Barbed Wire Ropes Deathmatch.

I know the thread says "appreciation" and we prob'ly should see about a name change, but we've been using this thread as more of a general catch-all for those of us who watch Fusion, so come on by. Formed after Gotch turned his back on his own alliance with Lawlor, as he was formerly a member of Lawlor's Team Filthy faction. Fatu won the title from Lawlor. Several episodes of Fusion are plagued with run-ins from this particular faction, including one episode where they ran in on every match. Expect to see their logo pop up in jumpscare fashion pretty much any time during Fusion. Not sure if Gorgon is an official affiliate of the Dynasty, as he's only been on one episode of Fusion so far and has pretty much gone unmentioned since. Serious dissention was teased during the last episode, and MJF will more than likely be on his way out before too much longer. It looks like Hammerstone might be in line to take over. More than implied. It was directly said on commentary that the Hart Foundation was the reason why MJF/Hammerstone happened, and that Holliday's father/lawyer unsuccessfully tried to block it. The attack by Contra Unit mentioned under Injustice below, had Teddy stuck around and not flounced off, was s'posed to lead to a feud with them, but was instead used to write Teddy off completely. Prob'ly done with as a unit after Teddy's departure, as Davey Jr. switched his entrance theme/video this week. This faction came about after Rich Swann felt himself disrespected by a referee, took it upon himself to attack said referee, and was rightfully suspended for it. We're not entirely sure why this faction still exists, since Swann was out the door not long after it started, and nobody actually shows them any disrespect to justify it still being around. Jordan Oliver's basically there as the token white guy, added after people started pointing out how racist the entire thing was. His presence doesn't stop anyone from continuing to call it out for what it is. Havoc is actually not considered an official member of Promociones Dorado, instead occupying a position as Salina's "advisor" of sorts, though he pretty much inherited the faction's feud with ol' Mancer after Salina managed to get Sami Callihan kicked out of MLW via a loser leaves match. The aforementioned feud began with, of all things, Mancer accidentally spilling his beer on Salina backstage. Promociones Dorado used to be used as a catch-all for showcasing up-and-coming talent that unfortunately didn't stick around too long, with Salina's connections in the wrestling industry being provided as the kayfabe reason. Among those were Garza Jr. (NXT's Angel Garza) and Sammy Guevara. As a result, expect anyone with ties to Mexico to either pop up as a member of the faction or side with Konnan and feud with them. Early episodes of Fusion featured a few other now-defunct factions. Team Filthy: Mentioned above as Lawlor's faction prior to the formation of Contra Unit. Mainly consisted of Lawlor and Gotch, with Seth Petruzelli, Fred Yehi, and Ariel Dominguez occupying their third slot at various times. Originally feuded with the below-mentioned Stud Stable. A staple of early episodes of Fusion were Gotch's $500 exhibition challenges. Met its demise after Gotch's aforementioned betrayal of Lawlor. Dominguez still hangs around as a jobber. Yehi disappeared and is missed. Stud Stable: Mainly consisted of Col. Robert Parker and the Dirty Blonds (Leo Brien and Mike Patrick), with Mike Parrow and Jake Hager each having a turn with the faction as well. Mainly feuded with Team Filthy, with the main focal point of their feud being Lawlor vs. Hager. Seemingly disappeared completely a while back, though Brien has since resurfaced on his own.

Yea MLW has a very 95ish ECW vibe. From it being on a small time sports channel,BeIN SPorts instead of Sunshine Network, and getting most of it's fans thru alternative ways of viewing the show,ECW had VHS and tape trading and MLW has Youtube and FITE(Anyone bother watching it on FITE?).
Yehi left cause of money issues. MLW doesnt pay that great. But it is nice to see guys that we have been seeing around the deep south for a few years getting TV time. Yehi worked a few Pro Wrestling EGO shows a few years ago,Gino Medina worked the first lucha show in MS this past May and also has worked for BIW in LA and MS.
Pretty much most weeks Fusion is the best weekly wrestling show for me.
Swann left when Calihan was fired/let got/whatever.

Swann left when Calihan was fired/let got/whatever. Swann was gone long before what happened with Callihan. Don't think there was any screwiness involved, think he just jumped from there to Impact.

I'd keep the appreciation thread name (for what some of us like about the promotion) and have a Fusion thread created if the other one with the TV deal announcement's been archived. Edit: Alright, I see that the title's been changed, never mind. That works too.

This thread is awesome and has made me really want to see MLW. Where do Austin Aries, Savio Vega, King Mo, Ken Doane, and Mike Mondo fit into all this?

Austin looked to be feuding with Teddy hart over hte middleweight title, then Teddy got fired and I dont think Austin has shown up in a bit.
Vega is here and there. He will disappear for weeks then come back and have one kinda crappy match.
King Mo sucks. Just flat out sucks. But has had one match so far.
Doane and Mondo have appeared what 2 times on TV,and had a match at the Dallas show that never aired. The Dallas match also had Dirty Andy Dalton in it.
Hope you enjoy MLW. With NJPW on AXS ending MLW will be my favorite weekly wrestling show.

He hasn't shown up since then. One less person for me to fast forward through! Vega really shouldn't be anywhere near a ring at this point. The weird swamp match (I am convinced they were just behind the parking lot of their usual venue, really) with Leo Brien was perversely entertaining, but that match with Hammerstone...woof. I know I'm not the only one who thought Vega broke both legs at the end. Worst part of a pretty bad tag match, IMO. Might've been slightly better had Dan Lambert on commentary not been focused on putting over Mo's MMA accomplishments. This isn't MMA, so what does that matter? Get over that obsession please! WWE renewing their "Spirit Squad" trademark at the beginning of the year might've had something to do with them not showing up anymore. MLW's gotten into a tiff with WWE over trademarks before, they prob'ly don't want to risk an infringement lawsuit.

There’s also a lot of free wrestling on the freesat channel showcase tv as it airs a fight network block most nights.

MLW's gotten into a tiff with WWE over trademarks before, they prob'ly don't want to risk an infringement lawsuit. The Squad were recently on the PPV pre-show along with Garrini/James and Gotch/Kwon. I presume they just show up whenever MLW needs a tag team to eat a pin.
