officialfan.proboards.com/thread/588912/problem-adam-pageJust like we did with Adam Page a while back, let's discuss and look at Omega First and foremost, he does not look like a star in the sense of the way AEW has presented him. Their biggest draws are Jericho, Cody, and Mox. All guys who have been on TV in the U.S. before It's not that he can't be a star, it's that he hasn't really been booked like one. Losing to PAC, Mox, and Jericho were logical moves. There is money in having Omega wait 6 months to a year to chase the title. It is just that the way they have booked him on a week to week has been iffy. This recent week where he got beaten up 3 different times in the same show is inexcusable imo. Taking an L in the tag match fine, but then getting beat up by Lucha Bros and then going to make the save and getting beat up by Dark Order doesn't really make him look good The biggest complain early on is if you are seeing him for the first time he's def a guy with a cool moveset and a good look but the hope is he continues to branch out and grow. He needs mic time, he needs to grow as a character, something for the fans to connect to on TV because while BTE is there, that's not something everyone will tune into. What's yall thoughts?

The Moxley Match put over how amazing he is as a perfomer. The issue is that his other showing of amazement were on Dark.

I think he is being booked with an acknowledgment that it is very hard to manufacture coolness. Booking him super strong while telling us how cool he is would probably do the exact opposite of making him a viable top face - we have certainly seen how well that routine goes over the last fifteen years.
It feels like they are trying to put him in places where new fans can discover him and warm to him. He is disproportionately wrestling and feuding with ex-WWE guys, which puts eyes on him; he got the big commercial-free opener where he mixed it up with two of the most impressive workers that AEW has; and his appearances on Dark seem like a compromise between jobber squashes (which wouldn't really get across how good he is) and blowing big matches (which would compromise his ability to draw long-term).
I think they are trying, and wary of making him come across like John Cena with cool moves. They could probably begin pushing him harder at this point, or at least giving him memorable moments that are actually on Dynamite (which is the thing I genuinely feel he could use more of) - but I am skeptical that just having him go over a lot of people is the best long term strategy.

I think he's been good, though I feel like, as good as the Moxley feud was, the PAC one doesn't seem as inspired yet. Maybe it'll pick up with the addition of the Nakazawa bit, especially if Nakazawa ends up joining Dark Order or something over it.

I think Omega will be just fine, I just think they need to pull the trigger on the climax of this mental break/doubt storyline sooner rather than later, so they can finally have Kenny realize who he is again and start wrecking house
That being said he's still put on some of the best matches in AEW's short time so far and that shouldn't go unnoticed. He has made Janela, Evans, and Kip Sabian all look like studs.

When I first heard whispers of kenny omega I was sceptical and chalked it up to hype. But then I checked him out and I was impressed. You had a guy that looked cool, was in shape, was deadlifting guys into powerbombs and just doing amazing moves. And to top it all off he also had good to great matches. This guy seems to have it. So I talk up this guy to casual friends of mine who had long moved on from wrestling due to them being under the belief this is only cool when you're a kid. But whatever, sometimes they would catch a wwe ppv and sometimes they'd like it but other times they wouldn't. But i thought maybe kenny could sway them cause he was different than what was going on. There were few times where I tried to show him his stuff but they never bit.
So fast forward to last Wednesday. We're at one of friend's house, it's raining and no one wants to go anywhere so we start flipping channels and nothing catches the eye. Until the one holding the remote sees dynamite and looks at me and asks is this that new wrestling show? I immediately hear groans from the other two, they don't want to watch but aren't fighting it. So we begin to watch. Unfortunately I remembered I needed to buy food for next week so I had to step out
I return and to my surprise they are still watching the program except for one he's busy playing on his phone, it's during the jericho match. They seemed to be into it but mainly cause they were making fun of jericho's unappealing look. Anyways the rest of the show goes on without much noise until we get to that dark order segment. I come back from the kitchen to grab a snack when one buddy turns to me and asks Hey is this that guy you were always talking about Mega something?
I go, which one?
This dork with the curly hair who got beat up twice already. The one that is getting his ass kicked by these batman goons that batman always beats up. Is this him? Cause he kind of sucks
And when they all looked at me it felt like an eternity. Their judgmental eyes boring holes through me waiting for my response cause I knew what they were about to unleash. I wanted to be strong and say yea that's him but then when I saw kenny being tossed over the ropes like garbage my resolve left me quick and I denied him. I said no that other guy is in japan. My friend with the remote then asked are you sure? I said yup.
They proceeded to watch the rest of the segment. One friend shook his head and got up to use the bathroom saying this is stupid. The other still on his phone. The one with the remote saying look at these clowns celebrating cause they beat up some losers. And another one saying I miss stone cold he would have kicked all of these guy's asses. I hadn't felt so dejected since nick patrick counted three on sting. That is the problem with kenny... You let me down omega. I don't believe in anything anymore

The AEW haven't done the best of job with him. Good but not great. The thing about Kenny was when AEW signed him it was a huge deal because he was legit the biggest free agent out there who had offers to go anywhere for a big payday. So I was expecting AEW to present him as a big deal the same way Jericho and Moxley are and having him loss his first match was not the best start for new fans to see why this guy was seen as a big deal free agent so to speak. Which I get but at the same time, to really come off as different from a company stand point to the fans. They need non former WWE guys in the picture in the Singles ME. Omega pretty much taken the backseat to everyone else in the ME singles. I hope the 2020 trend would be Moxley keeps going as the tweener, does win against Jericho but Omega is the one that ends Moxley run later in the year.

He's ironically the only guy that would have been a bigger deal had he signed with WWE.
That says a lot.
And maybe his tron wouldn't open with him walking around Tokyo looking sad that he didn't win the animal he really wanted out of the crane machine.

Eh, he’ll be fine. They’ll eventually pull the trigger on him and the best bout machine will force Meltzer to invent some new stars. AEW= American equivalent of Tokyo Dome. AEW in the Tokyo Dome=

I see him kinda being what AJ Styles was when TNA first started. Overshadowed at first by more recognised names, but eventually becoming popular as a household guy.
He seriously needs some big wins though.

Omega's problem is that he seems to think the sort of booking that worked for him in NJPW will work now, namely jobbing his way up the card. Thing is, you can lose big time matches and get over when you're having some of the best matches of all time that people talk about around the world. Jobbing to PAC in a decent PPV match though? Page screws up and hits him in a tag match? Eh.
There's also his weird, geeky character in AEW. To me Omega is a great wrestler that desperately needs to be reigned in by his booker.

There isn’t really a problem with Kenny Omega at all. He could have dominated the entire TV show and promotion, but has taken a step aside and helped others shine. His tag work with Hangman Page is seemingly to get a program going between them which will potentially elevate Page. His big 3 losses since Double or Nothing are Jericho, PAC and Mickey. Nothing there to be ashamed of.

I really find Omega way more interesting like this than I would if he was just crushing everybody. Then again while I like him plenty he's pretty far from my favorite guy on the roster so I'm not really dying to see him win every time.

Kenny is one of the EVP's of the company and is doing a lot of behind the scenes stuff. It's a weird case where one of the guys who has the book isn't treating it as a vanity project and booking himself to squash everyone, but I like the long-term storytelling they're doing with him. But they might also need to pull the (v-)trigger on where the storyline is going sooner than later.

There was a recurring theme in AEW early on - which they do seem to be trying to rectify - where there was the assumption that folk watching Dynamite had followed the Elite from Japan and All In and knew who all these guys were. So folk would just show up, and I'd have no idea who some of them were meant to be (and I follow the world of wrestling!). Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks have been the biggest victims of this lack of proper introduction so far. It is a bit amusing hearing JR and co talk how fans would expect the Bucks to be a superior team to the SCU each week, when one team has kept winning and it ain't the Bucks.
This isn't criticism, more that AEW need to continue to move away from telling rather than showing. Hopefully this Page/Omega feud brewing will help.
