Taken from Reddit and translated from: www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/prores/njpw/1669386/Basic summary: Tanahashi says if he beats Jericho in the Dome and Jericho wants a rematch, then he'll "open that forbidden door" and challenge him for the AEW Championship. *** I'm still extremely skeptical of this ever happening, but man if it does...that'd be one hell of a way to announce a partnership between the two companies. I'd LOVE to see Ace get some proper North American exposure, up there with Okada and Naito getting their mainstream appearances (well, outside of TNA anyways).

I can’t see Tanahashi being a guy who wants to rock the boat with New Japan by teasing something with another company that may or may not happen or if they have heat with but...well, that’d be intriguing as all hell if things play out that way.

Doesn't Tanahashi hold a lot of influence?I don't think he would rock the boat but he could mean something. I think he is just being a tease tho

He's not doing anything too risky, since Harold Meij, their president, seemed amicable to working with AEW in the future in an interview he did, or at the very least, wasn't shutting the door on the idea, just that there were not immediate plans, while also saying the CMLL and ROH relationships were still ongoing. So, probably just Tanahashi riling people, but I guess it's a non-zero chance anything would come of it.

Not going to let myself get riled up one way or another but it’s a cool twist. Definitely hypes me up more for WK and I was already hyped.

Doesn't Tanahashi hold a lot of influence?I don't think he would rock the boat but he could mean something. I think he is just being a tease tho To the best of my knowledge, Tana actually works with the NJPW booking team. Of course he's not in the type of lead booker spot Gedo is or like Liger is for the junior division, but as best I know he helps put some things together and is being groomed to assume more responsibilities as his in-ring work load gets lighter. Not sure we'll ever get "Ace Head Booker", but the guy's got a great mind for the business on the creative end, and NJPW knows it. As for how true this is, I'm not going to put any money on it right now; Okada has been public about being interested in working with AEW at some point, but it doesn't mean it's happening in the immediate future, either. In the meantime, though, I think Tana and everybody else at NJPW knows there's money to be had in playing up such a potential working relationship being "forbidden", thus building up some heat for a rivalry that in the future that could draw both companies a lot of business. If nothing else, I appreciate NJPW wrestlers not pretending that other major promotions don't exist when they do interviews like this, and while I don't think it's going to happen in the immediate future, I do think that at some point there'll be at least some kind of limited AEW/NJPW partnership, even if it's just a deal that allows for some dream matches here and there and isn't a full-on partnership ala NJPW's traditional alliances.

I feel like the partnership with New Japan is a when, not a matter of if. It's just too tantalizing for both brands, and there's a lot of things they can both do with the talent pools they have
Plus I think Kenny's storyline NEEDS Ibushi to at least make an appearance at some point.

At this point I think AEW could really use the partnership with NJPW.
So much of their product feels unimportant or mismanaged (Women's/Tag Titles) and there's a TON of history to call back on (something AEW just doesn't have due to it being a new company) from NJPW that a partnership would work wonders for some of their stagnant booking (Kenny in particular).
Tanahashi in AEW? Yes, please.

In a dream world I'd have an AEW/NJPW combined streaming service with excursions back and forth.

All honesty, much as I want to see certain NJPW and AEW talents interact and as much as I'd like to get some closure on previous connections between the Elite guys and various members of the NJPW roster, tonally speaking I wonder sometimes if AEW doesn't line up better for a full-level partnership with DDT and TJP. Again, that's not to say I don't want a NJPW/AEW crossover or partnership of some kind, it works well given the audience crossover and both promotions' relative sizes and exposure levels and with the aforementioned connections various that are already built in (Bullet Club, Moxley and Jericho still showing up in Japan, Best Friends having been in CHAOS, etc.), but, well...I kind of need an AEW pay per view to open with a battle royal that ends with Orange Cassidy as the Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion, with him surviving former champions Michael Nakazawa, Chuck Taylor, Joey Janela, MJF, Peter Avalon, a chair, both Young Bucks, Daniels and Kaz, Brandi Rhodes, and Emi Sakura and then eliminating an inflatable Tyrannosaurus Rex to cap off the victory. Basically this, but wearing a cowboy hat. Naturally, he'd then get DQ'd by another former champion, Rick Knox.

And I don’t know how much longer I’ll be dishing out $50 for AEW PPVs. Combined streaming service with extra features behind the scenes of both those companies just sounds too good to be true.

NJPW sounds like a pipe dream, especially as long as DDT is involved.

For what matter the NJPW youtube channel did a "recount" of Jericho leading up to thsi feud and they didn't mention the AEW title/company at all(and they had mentioned other companies titles and name). So probably nothing in the plans about it

So all this just makes me think Chris gets the clean win over Tanahashi. Even though my clairvoyant friend IRL (who’s called a scary amount of NJPW finishes) says Tana wins, and the AEW title match will happen.

Probably won't happen now but, I'd love for Tana to win.
Imagine how monumental it would be to see maybe the biggest star in the history of Japanese wrestling wrestle for an American world title on American TV.
