After 22 years, I finally find out about this. Plus, Wright was bald at the time, which explained why he had a bald head in the pictures. He must good hair growth, though, because by the summer of 1998, he had a mini-fro.
What I wonder is if this character would have worked at the time. Sure, we had Undertaker and Kane on the somewhat supernatural side, but would a voodoo priest have worked in the Attitude Era?
Fun fact: My youngest uncle and other relatives never believed that Papa Shango and Godfather (or Kama, as he was also known at the time) were one and the same, no matter how much I tried to tell them.

I think Papa Shango might have worked in the Ministry of Darkness

Vince apparently changed plans and put him in the NOD as Kama Mustafa due to Kane's impending debut.

It all worked out for the best I guess. The updated Papa Shango looked cool but would have been overlooked once Kane debuted. The Godfather is what cemented his place in the WWE Hall of Fame.

Now I wish there'd been a Gangrel/Papa Shango tag team in 1999.

Would’ve been perfect for the collection of monsters in the Ministry.

So cool to finally see this! I have no idea how it could’ve fit in with 97/98 WWF, but I dig the look.

I would think that Attitude Era Shango would basically do a proto-Ministry angle with him amassing a cult consisting of talents he’d brainwash via voodoo magic and whatnot.

I love the updated faceprint and costuming- basically an edgier version of the character. I would have loved to have seen what they did with the character in 1997.

This being unearthed men's one thing: Green Kane exists! As do several naked pictures of all divas if WWE ads of websites in the 90s are to be believed. As many have already mentioned, it surprisingly looks really cool but probably all for the best it didn’t happen.

I always thought the Ministry should have kidnapped him and he would come back as Shango. Much better than him becoming the Goodfather I think

Shango in 97 would have been cool but I think he would have been relegated to shotgun and superstars once Kane debuted and had been around a little while.

They also had two matches taped for home video release.

iirc Papa Shango was going to be the revelation in the Bearer/Taker feud ie other than Kane before the change. As we got Kane instead and Charles Wright got the run of his career soon after, I think everyone won here.
