Having a truly impartial commissioner that only makes decisions when necessary (like Jack Tunney, for example) would be good for AEW, I think. We know that the Elite are running the place behind the scenes and as it stands, they could do whatever they wanted. It's a bit of a plot hole and gap in internal logic. A commissioner takes Cody and everyone out of the match making decisions in kayfabe.

I nominate Arn for this role if it comes to pass.

Meltzer is denying this is happening and Taz is only being brought in for commentary next week. That said, if it happened and it was a Tunney-style commissioner who brings order to chaos, I wouldn't mind. But for the love of god please no overbearing heel authority figures that are all over the program. WWE, WCW, and TNA all ran the concept into the ground and then some.

I don’t want a full heel commissioner (more like Tunney like some are saying), but if Moxley does end up being the top face (and it looks like he will be if he takes the belt from Jericho), I could see him butting heads with whoever is in charge, and the commissioner becoming a foil for him.

If Meltzer is denying this then they're going to have 6 commissioners

I nominate Arn for this role if it comes to pass. Arn or Tazz are my picks of what's floating around out there. The number one role of a commissioner should be a respectable authority that doesn't put themselves over the talent involved, and I think both would be willing to do that.

Given Cody and TK are like late 80s, early-90s WCW fanboys, not later, I don't think we should worry too much about heel authority figures, especially when they wouldn't want to kill good will by making the company itself a heel. That's kind of a terrible idea.
So, yeah, figure if it does happen, and obviously a big IF from the sounds of things, then I'd think it'd be a Tunney or Bockwinkel-style authority figure, someone who is there to make a ruling and otherwise go away.

It's good to have one. It gives the ability to have those moments like when Regal came out, finally fed up with everyone and told them to settle it in War Games. You sometimes just need to have that character in your pocket. That said, it's always best to use them sparingly. Regal is probably the best one of the last decade or more. Heel authority figures blow. It worked once ever with Stone Cold and Vince.

Having a truly impartial commissioner that only makes decisions when necessary (like Jack Tunney, for example)... "Are you claiming that old 'On the Take' Tunney is impartial, Monsoon?!"
