It could be argued that all they had to do was book what they actually had correctly. But, if you could, how would you rebook the PPV?
Here's my shot:
Sting/Hogan: Sting gets FAR more offense than he did. In the closing moments, the nWo charges out to interfere, but are cut off by an army of WCW guys. Hogan goes for a chair shot, but Bret Hart appears, taking the chair away from Hogan. He punches out an interfering Bischoff and chases him to the back. Sting wins with the Scorpion Death Drop. No ref controversy Larry Z vs Bischoff is a glorified squash. No Bret involvement.
DDP/Hennig stays the same
Steiners vs Hall/Nash for the tag titles. Steiners go over after DiBiase trips Nash, setting up the top rope bulldog from Rick
Traylor, Giant and Luger vs Savage, Norton and Bagwell: WCW team goes over after the Sharpshooter
Goldberg/Mongo: Goldberg Squashes Mongo in 2 min.
Benoit/Saturn stays the same
Eddie/Dean Stays the same

Just have Sting beat Hogan clean without any bullshit. That finish killed WCW in the long term.

I really wish there was a Nash/Flair match, with Nash winning. The whole ppv can be booked as a conclusion to the nWo storyline with all the heels getting their comeuppance, but Nash wins because he’s en route to becoming a top face in 98 anyway. And also Tradition Bites.

Here's my shot: Traylor, Giant and Luger vs Savage, Norton and Bagwell: WCW team goes over after the Sharpshooter Which one of these technical wizards would do a Sharpshooter? But joking aside, I much prefer this idea to any Luger vs. Buff snoozer! One thing I wouldn't do during the show: no WCW loyal midcarders sitting in the stands. Rather, those folks like Alex Wright, Harlem Heat, Ultimo, Jericho, Glacier and Rick Steiner (but not Scott...) can come to ringside and celebrate by hoisting Sting on their shoulders to welcome the Stinger back into the good graces of everyone. Luger can look on from the top of the ramp and smile.

Sting beats the living shit out of Hogan in a squash, then beats him clean in the death lock.
The NWO is then dissolved.

Remember the way Luger beat Hogan for the title?
Do the exact same match except it ends with the SDL instead of the Torture Rack.
Keep everything else the same as no one remembers it 20 plus years later anyway. The finish to Hogan/Sting is unforgettable for the wrong reasons.

I'd just make a few tweaks to the card.
The main events: 8. Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting - WCW Heavyweight Championship. Same as before but this time, Sting goes over cleanly and have Bret Hart as guest referee.
7. Larry Zbyszko vs. Eric Bischoff - If Bischoff wins, he gets control of Nitro.
6. Curt Hennig vs. Diamond Dallas Page - WCW United States Championship
5. Scott Hall vs. The Giant
The undercard: 4. Saturn w/ The Flock vs. Chris Benoit
3. Goldberg vs. Steve McMichael
2. Buff Bagwell, Randy Savage, & Scott Norton vs. Lex Luger & The Steiner Brothers - 6 Man Tag Team Match
1. Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko - WCW Cruiserweight Championship

The biggest change would be for Sting to go over clean. They could still stretch the program out by having Hogan demand a rematch on Nitro and have a screwy finish there, but Sting needed to win the title cleanly that night.

Nash tells the nWo that Hulk doesn't them to interfere in the main event, he can beat Sting no problem
Bret is guest ref for Sting/Hogan
Sting beats Hulk clean and the WCW locker room celebrates while Bret hands Sting the belt but not before they give each other a knowing look that sometime soon they'll face off
The next night on Nitro Sting defends the belt against Scott Hall and beats him clean too just before the nWo hit the ring being lead by Hogan
An all in brawl between the nWo and WCW occurs where the highlight in all the confusion is Nash "accidentally" knocking Hogan out cold. And that's how you start the New World Order falling apart angle

Eddie beats Dean to retain the Cruiserweight title
Hall says Nash isn't here, but challenges Giant on his behalf; Hall beats Giant via Nash run-in
Goldberg squashes Mongo
The nWo challenge The Steiners to put the Tag Titles on the line instead of having the six man tag; The Steiners beat Savage and Konnan to retain, after Lex Luger stops Liz from interfering
Benoit beats Saturn, Flock beat down Benoit post-match
Hennig beats Luger to retain the US Title; Savage costs Luger, playing off the earlier angle in the Tag Title match; DDP evens the odds for Luger, which sets up the title change for 1998, since I only wanted one title change on this card.
Sting beats Hogan for the World Title; Bret is the ref and ends up helping Sting fight off the interfering nWo before calling Hogan's tapout clean in the middle of the ring
