Barely fit the title in. lol.
Anyway, one of the matches that first got me into being a fan of old school wrestling despite my posts supporting modern, flippy matches and my dislike of the old schoolers who seem to live to shit on the younger wrestlers like Rip Rogers, was Tully Blanchard vs. Magnum T.A in a steel cage I Quit match and it was just this wild brawl with a really brutal ending, especially for the time.
But then I looked into see more about Magnum and heard of his connection with Tessa Blanchard, one of my personal favourite wrestlers going today, but I heard that they had some really big plans for him had he not suffered that horrific car crash. But, hypothetically, if this car crash never happened, how for could Magnum have gone? Maybe a world title program with Ric Flair?

He would've beat Flair for the title at Starrcade 86, had a non-descript and mostly forgettable title reign before losing the belt back to Flair, floated a couple more years in some high profile angles, maybe gotten another short title reign if a storyline called for it, then retired. Basically he would've been Sting before there was a Sting.

I always wanted him to be a Horseman. Have a big fight with Dusty re: BabyDoll and they both leave him. Depending on who is in at the time, of course. Or just him and BabyDoll on their own.
He would have looked fabulous with the Big Gold belt. TA against Heels and Faces would have been awesome to see.
He never seemed like a WWF/Circus-type to me.

He would have turned heel on Dusty at some point because that's what all of Dusty's friends did. He'd have bounced around the mid-card for awhile, getting a token World title reign or two, and that would have been that.

I really don't see Vince having much interest in him so his run would possibly have been limited to a short-term NWA title run. I don't see him being sufficient charismatic or over the top to make it in that era WWF, at least not as a baby face.

Yeah I think Magnum would have been a WCW lifer. I don't know exactly how he would have fared in the 1990s once the Bischoff regime took over since Bischoff might have viewed TA as a reminder of the redneck southern territory past he was moving away from. At that point either he goes to the WWF, which is hard to envision, or he just becomes an agent for WCW (which is kinda what he did after the wreck).
I think he might have had an NWA title run and been the top babyface for 1987. The bad moves Crockett did that year like the UWF buyout, or Central States, or Florida might still would have been a problem. But at least he would have had a top face to feud with Flair, whereas Flair didn't have much to do in 1987 aside from mini feuds with Windham, or the whole thing with either Jimmy or Ronnie Garvin.

He likely ends up in WWF for 3-5 years, possibly reuniting the Blade Runners with Hellwig and presumptively filling the spot that was taken by the LOD - or goes as a single and kicks around the mid-card until opting to return to WCW.

That makes a whole lot of sense, the going to WWF part. But I think he'd be as likely to feud with UW as he would be to tag with him.

I think that Magnum wasn’t going to have a huge shelf life anyways considering that he was Magnum PI: the wrestler.
He would have beaten Flair, done some feuding with Flair and the Horseman and likely settled into a Barry Windham type US title level spot would be my guess. Probably would have had a short WWF run just because literally everyone around at that time did other than Sting.

The crash was the best thing to happen to his legacy. Like most tragic stories or unfortunate turn of events it allows us to wax lyrical with 'what if'.
In my view the truth is that he would have been considered a moderately successful but very much of-his-time wrestler with limitations that people consider it bad manners to address just because he's a member of the 'what if...' club.
I think he would have seemed very dated and out of fashion before they could get much more then a single short title run out of him.

He would have been eliminated 7th in the 1992 Royal Rumble

He would have succeeded in late 80s against flair but moved to the mid card once Sting took off.
I imagine he would move to wwf by the 90s and vince would repackage him with a shaved mustache, new name and an over the top career gimmick like a mechanic or something. Smear grease on his opponents.

The trick did work more than once, same with "Ric Flair is the top heel, again, feed him a face" or "Hogan's buddy turns on him for something that let's be real, Hogan had it coming". But like the other two, he went to the well a bit too often.
