So I started to remember the first Pokemon League and I remember that Ash had Brock and Misty telling him what to do. Yeah the last two matches he did it on his own but a lot of people seem to forget that he basically had help during the majority of the league while everyone else did it on their own.
Not to mention the fact that he constantly wouldn't catch Pokemon which defeats the purpose of "Gotta Catch'em All" as well as he let a lot of his Pokemon go.
Not to mention it took him years to win a major league unless you count the Orange League.
Besides that what do you people think? Is Ash truly the worst Pokemon Trainer ever?

Ash largely reminded me of your average kid who plays the video games; grinds the starter, uses the legendary, and that's about it. The writing varied, but it was awful during Advanced Generation. But at his best, he can be competent, and surprise, they now realize that winning doesn't mean it's the end for him (though the anime should focus on Go as the exclusive protagonist).
But that mantle now belongs to Hop. He has to be reminded all the time about type advantages in the game (plus he uses a legendary as a handicap), and I know he's going to be a dimwit in the anime.

Well I mean, there were those trainers that came before Ash and straight-up quit apparently. Those losers are much worse trainers.

Granted Pikachu did once get his ass kicked by a Magikarp.

I still haven't forgiven him for letting Pidgeot (and Butterfree) go Ash largely reminded me of your average kid who plays the video games; grinds the starter, uses the legendary, and that's about it. I haven't played any of the Pokemon games for quite a few generations. Hop getting saddled with the rival Pokemon who's weak to whatever Pokemon you choose in Sword/Shield confused me so much at first, haha.

Hop getting saddled with the rival Pokemon who's weak to whatever Pokemon you choose in Sword/Shield confused me so much at first, haha. The Pokémon games have gotten so hand-holding with the gameplay I'm surprised that they haven't bothered with the Black 2/White 2 "Easy Mode" option of having a rival who is weak to you with lower levels and providing a regular mode for the standard gameplay and a "Challenge Mode" for a rival who has the type advantage, as well as levels and Pokémon added to his team. You don't even fight a starter that's got the advantage against you until the league champion now, which began in Generation VII. This began in Generation V when you fought against Bianca & Cheren in the original Black & White; Bianca got the weaker Pokémon, while Cheren got the stronger one, giving you a balance between a competitive rival and a "cute" rival. It wasn't until Gen VII, as well, that the "rival" (Hau was too nice to be a rival) got the weaker one by default. So, to put it simply; they make the games exclusively for a young demographic (not a bad thing, since that's why it became so popular to begin with), yet are making them less and less challenging as a result.

Not really. He wins the majority of his matches, is able to come up with good strategies and deeply cares about his Pokémon, as well as being able to bring a variety into his team and help them grow.

I thought he did OK during the Pokemon League.
Using Krabby was a gamble that paid off, and he shocked everyone by pulling out Muk.
I still never forgiven him for giving up Primeape and forgetting about him.

The worst Pokémon Trainer is that bitch Mindy who trades you a Haunter holding an Everstone.

Doesn't he routinely stomp Jessie and James? Wouldn't they therefore be the worst?

Doesn't he routinely stomp Jessie and James? Wouldn't they therefore be the worst? My favorite episode was where Jessie kicks ass in the Princess Festival. Worst trainer for me, the person tried fighting Surge's Raichu with a Ratata (its shown injured in the Pokemon Center)

Nah, there are plenty of trainers worse than Ash. He maybe an underdog and not win any championships but getting to semi-finals and finals is far better than most trainers can ever hope for.

Oh look, complaining about how a character is written in Season 1 of the a show that's been on for decades. Never gets old.
