Looking back at the year 2019, one of the most remarkable and unbelievable things to happen (in terms of entertainment, and in terms of GOOD things) is Billy Ray frickin' Cyrus achieving one of the most unlikeliest of accomplishments: A one-hit-wonder from 3 decades prior, getting a second hit song, and said song being one of the most successful songs in Billboard history. Nostradamus couldn'ta foreseen that. That's definitely one of the more positive things I'm going to look back on for 2019 in music.

Know very little about country music, but from what I’ve gathered BRC is not a credible figure and his guest spot was perceived as pandering, like a country artist asking Fred Durst to guest for rap cred.
Lil Nas X himself is apparently not a fan of the genre, and had the extreme misfortune to launch his career this way.
I do like his story, but then there’s Scarlord, also a former aspiring YouTuber who actually did vocals for a metal band before deciding to become a rapper, and he’s actually pretty good at it.
FAN people who are more versed in country, if I’m wrong please let me know.

Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) also won an American Country Music Award or something in 2019 because of that song

No idea if it’s true since I’m not much into country. I just thought it was funny to think of that dorky guy who sung Achy Breaky Heart as a legend.

Overstating things, but he wasn't a flash in the pan in country, Achy Breaky was just his breakthrough hit, so he wasn't a nobody or anything. Still, legend is laying it on thick.

Yeah, and as a great coda to it, Lil Nas X's follow-up "Panini" was a monster hit in its own right so he's two-for-two and wasn't daunted at all by the potential one-hit-wonderness of the massive unprecedented success. Side note, getting back to your main point, I think Billy Ray's return to pop culture prominence was such a bombshell that nobody really batted an eye when this same year Snow of "Informer" fame appeared out of nowhere on Daddy Yankee and Katy Perry's "Con Calma" which was one of the summer's biggest hits and spent 25 weeks on the charts.

He'd have probably had a solid, if unspectacular career had Achy Breaky Heart not first made him huge&then kind of a cartoon character. The rest of that album had songs that were just sort of fine.

I was going to say, if anything Snow was the bigger surprise, even just as a side note, because of his daughter, Billy Ray was hanging around on the edges of fame for the last few years. It's not that surprising that someone gave him a call, that it was SUCH a hit sure, but I get it. Snow basically disappeared for 25 years.

Well, that's certainly a song that exists. It's been over now longer than it took to listen, I'm still scratching my head.

Yeah and it was *checks notes* a feature on a country rap song with a gay black man sampled from a Nine Inch Nails track?
Madlibs, have you been screwing with my notes again?

Yeah I mean Billy Ray has had about 7 different country top 10 hits, even if only 1 has been a massive pop crossover. I didn't realize his 2nd album went platinum and hit #3 on the charts.

Yeah, without Achy Breaky, he probably wouldn't have had a special but would probably been like a David Lee Murphy, Rick Trevino or Wade Hayes. Those names are meaningless if you're not familiar with early 90s country but they had a couple hit singles and a decent album or two.
