www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=47&v=3eG8Z2HyGTc&feature=emb_titleI busted out laughing 5 seconds in with the *clears throat* "I concur with Tugboat" line. I mean they had to realize how ridiculous this sounded? Gene is acting like the Hulkster is on his death bed due to Earthquake hitting him with a chair and sitting on him a couple of times lol.

1990 was a different time back then fat men brought fear and them sitting on you would make you contemplate your life choices. If that was me getting hit with a chair & sat on by Earthquake I’d want good friends like Tugboat & Mean Gene.

Oh man! Gene was a company man through and through and would sell the hell out of the product - but yeah, this is pretty cheesy.
The thing that got me is that while Hogan took multiple splashes, so did lots of jobbers and yet they’d still be on TV week after week. The way this played out you’d have thought Hogan was on life support!

The way this played out you’d have thought Hogan was on life support! "Rugged" Ronnie Garvin did three televised stretcher jobs for Earthquake and yet he was back to work in no time after every one. Or even better yet Hercules took multiple splashes at WrestleMania VI and managed to make it to his feet without needing to be stretchered which nobody had done after getting Eartquaked (I know it was probably because the entrance way was so long they didn't want to bother going through the hassle of using a stretcher but still). Yet you didn't see those guys needing Tugboat to start get well campaigns or Mean Gene basically reading their eulogy on television. They toughed it out and continued to wrestle like real men. If I wasn't only a little over a year old and watching this I would have no sympy for the Hulkster.

Earthquake was great, though this I feel like was the last hurrah for Hogan with this type of program. I can't think of any of them after this with the "monster heel beats up Hogan, don't worry kids, he'll be back to give him what-for after we're not sure if he can come back from this" angle worked right for him until maybe his second run, where Brock Lesnar, for example, got him some major sympathy. It was a changing landscape.

It was a changing landscape. Yeah, his next main feud was with an already over the hill Slaughter and after that was Sid. However, due to Hogan being on his way out of the company he didn’t get the decisive big boot/leg drop victory over him. You just got the awkward DQ win at WMVIII and then both men were gone soon after.

He probably had PTSD from all the prior attacks he suffered on that show whenever he needed a vacation.

The tone of this makes you wonder why there weren't attempted murder charges for Earthquake.

The tone of this makes you wonder why there weren't attempted murder charges for Earthquake. Hogan didn’t want to press charges brother he wanted to beat him in the ring.Brother. I’ve been watching some 88 primetime’s and they took the same tone when Hogan injured Harley Race.Heenan was on TV bawling and they showed a graphic of Harley in the heavens.

I wonder how many takes they had to do because of Gene corpsing. It's a safe bet all involved pissed themselves laughing many times.

The Hogan/Quake feud was a long lesson in how to be melodramatic. This. Tugboat doing the Tinkerbell "clap your hands" speeches to rally the Hulkamaniacs. And That Tribute Video with the slow, dramatic version of Real American.

This had everything but him imploring the Hulkamaniacs of the world to clap their hands to fill Hogan with the power of Hulkamania once more.

I was 7 when this happened. It was serious business! I was overjoyed when Hogan came back.

If you watch the actual episode of Superstars where this happened, there were two more squash matches after this, and Vince kept sounding extremely somber like someone had shot Hogan or something while Jesse chided him for "not being professional".

Its a shame this angle didn't happen in WCW; an emotional Gene on the verge of tears about what happened only to then transition into plugging the hotline for updates on the Hulkster would have been fantastic.

What is fantastic is this was basically a giant phishing scam. Write to Hulk, now merchandising has your address to send you catalogs.

They did the same thing with the Get Well Matilda campaign as well as "Ban the DDT" (which was Jimmy Hart trying to get fans to write in to ban Jake's DDT, something tells me that didnt get many letters).

Back then when kids were the main audience. Then those kids became teenagers and attitude happened. Then those kids became adults and stopped watching.
