I'm not exactly shocked by this, I'm more shocked it took them this long.
Might be why she didn't sign with AEW in the end, even though I was really hoping for it, AEW's made some really good womens signings since she appeared there as well. Martinez is still a great wrestler with a ton of experience, if she's signed she should make an immediate impact.

Hope she got a really good deal if true. Mercedes has been toiling away for years and it'd be great for her to play out the rest of her career making some big leagues money

Mercedes is probably the best she's ever been, normally there'd be a drop-off at her age for someone who's been at this as long as she has, but she did the best work of her career last year, including matches against Jordynne Grace, Millie McKenzie and David Starr.
Doubt she'll go beyond NXT, but she'll surely be a PC coach long term.

The logical human side of me says good for her. She’s earned this ten fold and if this is a way for her to basically join or fill Sara Del Ray’s position in NXT, it makes complete and utter sense.
The AEW fan inside me is booing profusely, though. Martinez/Statlander is a match that can’t happen on TV now (yes I know it happened in the indies already but not the same, man. 😭)

Someone who comes across as a legit badass without having a MMA gimmick. I like it.

I'm looking forward to Martinez punishing the NXT women's division.

I'm not exactly shocked by this, I'm more shocked it took them this long. My exact thought when I saw the topic. I was shocked she was not signed after the first MYC, never mind this long after the second one. Could really help the NXT if they really do a lot of call ups after WM.

Perhaps it was more her decision than WWE’s decision for it to take this long? That would make sense to me. Especially if this is where she’s finishing up her career.
I hope she gets a good run before going into a trainer role (which is what we’re all assuming!). Just from her MYC appearances you can see how talented she is.

Seriously bummed she didn't sign with AEW. Would have been a huge boost for their steadily improving women's division.
Still, it is good news as she will be in good company with the women's division in NXT.
Either way, good for her for signing with a major company.

Surprised that AEW didn't sign her, but a good veteran to have for NXT's Women's division.

Pleased for her, shes a hell of a talent and fully deserves a good run on nxt and the main roster. Her and Shayna would have kick ass matches no doubt

Good for her, so, there's Sara Del Rey, Serena Deeb and Sarah Stock (Sarita) all training these NXT girls and then, they've potentially got Mercedes Martinez becoming a trainer, too (I think she'd be well suited to that role.) The NXT Women's division and the PC trainees have some of the best damn coaches to teach them the graps!

Really good signing for WWE and I think a big potential loss for AEW.
AEW needs a deeper women's division. Not just more in terms of bodies, but in terms of experience as well. They can't just throw out green people who aren't ready for TV. Mercedes fit the bill and also recently worked for them. If they didn't make her a serious offer, then shame on them.

This makes me sad because I won't get to see her on AEW, hope she's an nxt mainstay at least lol

I mean, if they offered her a part time wrestling slot and full time coaching, there's not much AEW can do to counter that. Coaches are technically employees so they get benefits, don't have to travel as much and get paid to impart wisdom. So outside of AEW opening their own performance centre (which they can't possibly do right now), there's not much they could do. I agree that work needs to be done but for that work to be done, you need to take some risks on talent and make it seem like a destination to go. It's known AEW was in the bidding for Viper and if it wasn't for the fact she'd still be able to wrestle in the UK and not have to travel to America a lot, she'd probably be there. In terms of women, WWE had a massive headstart.

Most likely NXT bound and another big hit for them in a womens division that is outstanding
Surprised it took this long but I would guess this was her decision if anything because i'm sure AEW was knocking on her door too

Shanna, Big Swole, and Statlander being signed has helped a little, but I do think AEW could use Allison Danger to scout more women too.

I’m happy for her. I’ve dug her in the MYC and she strikes me as a more believable better Mia Yim, in the tough meanstreets girl kind of way. Hope she gets a good run.

As a longtime fan, I lost hope awhile that it would never happen. I’m so happy for her. Her hard work finally paid off.
