What an absolute bummer. I had the honor of seeing Rush in concert ten years ago, and it was a fantastic experience. RIP to a legend.

Got to see Rush three times, and IMO Peart is the best to ever do it. Others might cite Bonham or Moon or Buddy Rich or someone but Peart to me was the perfect drummer. He was a total goddamn virtuoso but also knew when to reign it in, and some clunkers aside he was a pretty good lyricist.
Goddamn this one hurts. Last time I felt this bad over a celebrity death was Cornell. RIP to a legend.

RIP. This sucks. Rush is my brother's favorite band and we got to see them live twice during the Vapor Trails tour. Was trying to put a top ten Rush song list for that one top ten song thread here. The first band I really got into.

What a dogpile of a week for Canadians. First, the plane crash/whatever it was in Iran, then this.
Rush has been spoken of with an admiration bordering on reverence for decades in my country - Neil was a huge part of that. Not only was he perhaps the greatest drummer in rock history (don't speak to me of Moon or Bonham or Baker - they all would have knelt before this man), and the man behind the words of so much of Rush's greatest material, but he also pulled himself through some extraordinary tragedy - his daughter killed in a car accident, his first wife dying of cancer both within a year - and managed to keep it together and carry on. In a day and age such as this, such courage and determination is rare. It carried him through to the end.
This would be probably akin to losing a Beatle or Springsteen. Our hearts have been broken today.
