"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad"
I know some are going to be mad at the delay because they preordered it but why wouldn't you want it to be the best possible game when it lands?
edit: oof, just saw how they're going 8 months of crunch.

This almost feels like some weird knock on effect. -Animal Crossing gets delayed from 2019 to March 2020 -Final Fantasy is moved from March 2020 to April 2020 -Cyberpunk 2020 is rescheduled from April 2020 to September 2020. Presumably there's some major game set for a fall release that will get bumped soon too. Wasnt The Last of Us 2 supposed to release in March but got delayed until May? Conversely, Doom Eternal was supposed to release late last year but got delayed until March.

Guessing the game is now going to be crushed saleswise by the Avengers and NBA 2K21 Ehh idk about that Depends how much hype Avengers get as the date gets closer. This was the "worst" 2K released in a good while and they pissed off some people this year but in saying that in saying it was the worst, that means it was a 7.5 as opposed to a 9 so people are still going to buy And Avengers isn't as anticipated as when they originally announced it. The early gameplay didn't get the best reception, people aren't big fans of the looks of the Avengers, and there are questions about the online components.

There’s a chance I won’t even get it at launch at that point. Honestly this isn’t a game I’ve been too hyped on. I don’t love the asthetic of the game, and while I know it’s a completely different genre/style of RPG I also don’t love The Witcher so I’ve always been lukewarm on this one.
Then come the end of the year, I’ll be in saving mode for the PS5.

Yea, Avengers has too many question marks around it so you can't really call it Unlike Spiderman for the PS4 which people were iffy on when they heard about it, as the news for the game came out people got hyped and it ended up being one of the better superhero games of all time

Making an prediction: Cyberpunk will have dissapointing sales due to it being released in the same period as Avengers, Madden 21, FIFA 21 and NBA 2K21

Making an prediction: Cyberpunk will have dissapointing sales due to it being released in the same period as Avengers, Madden 21, FIFA 21 and NBA 2K21 I'll take that bet. CD Projekt Red has a lot of positive support from their fans, and the overlap of FPS RPGs and Sports games is very minute. Sure, the sports games may make more money with its multitude of gatcha DLC (and the audience is far larger), but I severely doubt there's anything for them to worry about when it comes to their sales numbers.

And there could be another wild card: the western release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will likely be out before Cyberpunk.

Well, that's not going to affect sales at all.

Yea, Avengers has too many question marks around it so you can't really call it Unlike Spiderman for the PS4 which people were iffy on when they heard about it, as the news for the game came out people got hyped and it ended up being one of the better superhero games of all time Yeah, the announcement of it being a live service game especially, took it from "Holy shit, an Avengers game in this day, on the consoles, with the fighting engines going today? This is gonna rule" to "Wow, they're f***ing this up. This game is going to suck." They nuked the hype for the game, so unless they fix shit, it won't be a big threat. And that if you want a good Avengers game, just pick up the Lego games. I'm hoping they get it fixed, because I'd love a fantastic Avengers game with the Arkham/Spidey engine and switching between characters. But as it looks right now, Cyberpunk might be in better shape to succeed than Avengers. And like you said, Spider-Man had a better bounce back. People were a little iffy when it was announced, then they dropped the gameplay footage, and it turned into everybody being pumped for it.

An Avengers game that hits all the classic notes of the last few years with a Spiderman/Arkham type engine would be amazing. It is not like you have to have all the characters on screen as you said. Things like only Stark/Rodgers available in one section or Thor/Hulk etc could happen but they f***ed up their own hype with that Yea, I had no desire for a Spiderman game and thought it was going to be trash until they started showing the trailers and I went from f*** that to I got to have that. Avengers has time to do it but idk if they will. Add on as said September/October is a heavy month in general as that's when the big sports games get released and you have another big title in that time frame with Cyberpunk Avengers may be a game people end up waiting to get on sale for Black Friday or an Xmas buy

The worse news that comes out of this is that it doesn't alleviate the crunch at all, which indicates from a certain perspective that the game isn't close to being done yet, but more than that, it really sucks for the crew that's working on it that they've got another 8 months of intensive work ahead of them. Honestly, if the game was delayed another year, I'd have no problem with it as long as it means that the crew isn't getting burned out and killing themselves to finish it.
Man, I keep seeing more stories about crunch and the hell people go through to get games done, and I consider how advanced the PS5 and Series X are going to be, I really think in the next 2 years we're going to see a real quantatative human toll on developers, and we're going to have to ask ourselves a lot of questions about how badly we want our video games.

I think this already happened, and most people's answer was "I want games badly enough that go ahead and crunch all you want." A problem is fine when it can be blamed on EA or whoever. But gamers have proven over and over they will strongly reject absolutely anything that implies their own behavior is problematic in any way.

Nothing's going to change until employees are able to unionize to demand better treatment. There's also going to need to be some systemic changes in the way people approach game development as a prospective career. Simply put, a lot of people getting into game development are passionate about video games and have a higher threshold for abuse because it's their "dream job," while also being in an incredibly competitive field. This allows employers to get away with gaslighting practices like crunch, abuse, and other scumminess while also having the threat of being easily replaceable looming over their heads.
