How can a game go gold if it hasn't released yet?
Pre-order hype?

How can a game go gold if it hasn't released yet? Pre-order hype? Going gold means it's ready for release. Doesn't mean there won't be a huge first-day patch, but it's ready to be pressed for discs.

Yeah, going gold pretty much means that the game is ready to go and unless there's an issue with production of the discs, then what this means is that the game isn't getting delayed again and is on track for November.

What they said above.
I hope the workers who had to endure crunch are allowed to rest for a bit. Still shitty it happened to them.

Slowly but surely, this is becoming the New Mutants of video games.

Slowly but surely, this is becoming the New Mutants of video games. Not...really? Like, the game seems to be done, this just seems like they're moving out of the way like other games are in a crowded November, which makes a lot of sense. Especially in the PS5's case, there are going to be a good few games available from last-gen for people to play. If anything, it's the sort of thing they should have done earlier to prevent stories of overworking people.

So more crunch for the employees. Between that and CDPR's consistent transphobia, the only way I'd ever pick this up despite some elements being up my street is if it guaranteed it made them no money, like an eventual used copy.

Well, good news is that it saves me $60 since I was planning to get this with the PS5 launch so since it's so close to Xmas and my birthday is right after that, I'll probably just pick it around then.

Weird thing is Cyberpunk apparently lets you play around with your gender in character creation in ways beyond the typical binary. I don't know of any specific evidence of CDPR's own transphobia, but that is disappointing to hear.

Ideally, I wish they wouldn't be forcing the staff into crunch hell, but going back to my earlier confusion about them saying the game "went gold", I thought it was ready for retail release, barring patching.

They tie gender to voice in the game, which is 100% not how it works and pretty gross when they could easily have let you select gender and have it seperate. There's also the highly fetishistic 'Chromanticore' advert (because comparing trans people to mythological monster hybrids is lovely, and totally fine to promote your game with cis women wearing strapons for cosplay), and then there's their... history with social media, not even including their courting of the Gamergate crowd:

It should be said that this comes from the social media department who are basically trying to get hits and attention for the game and might not reflect the team as a whole.
Which in turn makes it slightly worse because that's not something you want to keep associating with regardless.

Marketing rarely has the interest of mind when it comes to the people making whatever it is they're selling.

Marketing rarely has the interest of mind when it comes to the people making whatever it is they're selling. Depends on the team and way things are structured. There’s a reason Oliver Aged 24 is as part of Fall Guys’ success as a game as much as the game is, for example.
