1997-Erich Bischoff turns heel and joins the NWO, predating the emergence of the Mister McMahon character by a year. Evil boss characters in wrestling: still ongoing today. Total time: 23 years and counting.

Total time: 23 years and counting. Me being pedantic, but Mr. McMahon had already debuted for the "McMemphis" storyline, though I don't know if it counts as much since he wasn't a heel for his own company, but towards Memphis.

Sting officially rebranded himself in October 1996 as "Crow Sting", modeled after The Crow, mostly made famous by actor Brandon Lee. Sting has kept this look since.
We're less than 5 years away from the "Crow Sting" lifespan lasting longer than Brandon Lee's ACTUAL lifespan (he died tragically 2 months after turning 28.)

We’re coming up on 18 years since the name change to WWE. I'll do you one better.
Capitol renamed the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1979. They changed their name to WWE in 2002 (23 years). In 2025, they will have been the WWE as long as they were the WWF.

They showed a clip of Brock Lesner from his debut Royal Rumble the other day.
It's 18 years since his debut. 2020 is as close to 2002 as 1984 was to 2002.
Look at clips of WWE in 1984 and how drastically different it was and the many changes it went through from 84 to 92 to 97 and on to 2002.
Now look from 2002 until now and how similar and few changes we have seen with the look of the product.

When Harley Race was Triple H's age in 2020, he'd retired as Vaders manager. Nia Jax, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Keith Lee, Dawson, the Bella Twins, BRAUN, Kenny Omega, Heath Slater, Drake Maverick, EC3, Roderick Strong, Alex Shelley, Rene Dupree, Nattie, Maryse, Jack Swagger, Maria Kanellis, Primo, Sonjay Dutt, Balor, Kofi Kingston, Asuka, Rowan, Fandango and Trent Seven are all now older than Owen Hart was at the time of his death. There is a longer gap between Eddie Guerreros death and today, then Vince McMahon Sr's death and Stone Cold Steve Austin's first WWF Championship win. The Harley Race one always throws me. I thought he was like 20 years older at the time.

WCW Monday Nitro lasted from September 1995 until March 2001: 5 years, 6 months
The very first NXT Takeover was in May 2014: 5 years, 8 months ago

Having watched since I was in kindergarten, and am now 33, it is hard to think of the wrestlers as being either my peers or younger.
Especially when it comes to the women. They could have been my classmates. Like they are no longer unattainable because they are women and I'm a 14 year old boy. They're unattainable because I'm a married, overweight, schlub who brings nothing to the table!

I just saw a picture of Oje Hart (Owen's son) and he literally looks like a slightly younger Owen.
I bring this up because it's a remarkable (yet still horrible) reminder of how long Owen has been gone.

It's amazing how short Austin's time on top actually was.

I started watching in 2004 and Cena was one of my favorite wrestlers. In June of 2020. I am now as old as Cena was when he first won the wwe championship
Cena, Orton, AJ Styles, Chavo, and Rey have all outlived Eddie Guerrero
We are closer to Mania 40 than we were to mania 30
The first ppv I watched live was Wrestlemania 23, and the only full time guy there that’s never left the company is Randy Orton

Since we're depressing each other about how long Owen's been gone, his youngest kid was born the night of In Your House 3, because you might recall the Bulldog subbed for him in the main event as a result. Owen made his WrestleMania debut at Mania 5, a month short of his 24th birthday. His youngest kid is older than he was when he made his WrestleMania debut. Oje is older than his dad was when he made his Royal Rumble debut (in 93).

Kurt Angle's TNA stint was longer than his original WWE run.
Adding to the Steve Austin facts, when he faced Bret Hart at Survivor Series 1996, current NXT Women's champion Rhea Ripley was roughly a month old.
Since I weirdly use wrestling as a mark for time passage, here's a personal one: my older brother was born in fall 1990, same time of year as The Undertaker debuted. We both grew up watching him wrestle, and now both my brother and the Undertaker character will be 30 years old this fall.
Daniel Bryan is roughly four years older than Shawn Michaels was when DB trained at his wrestling school.
And lastly for now, Wrestlemania will hit the big 40 in a few years. Let that sink in.

Curtis Axel is the longest reigning participant in the Royal Rumble, two whole years without getting eliminated.

The Miz has been a fixture on WWE TV for roughly the same length of time as Bret Hart’s entire initial WWE run.

Here's another: The Rock debuted in the WWF at age 24, almost 24 years ago.
Dustin Rhodes is 2 years younger than Ric Flair was when Naitch came back to the WWF after the Invasion. Y2J is 3 years younger than Ric was.
The hilarious HBK vs Hogan match will be 15 years old this August.
Remember how cringey and annoying Raw's guest host era was? Well good thing that is pretty much a distant memory, it happened almost a decade ago.

I started following wrestling in late 2008. Which is closer to the Montreal Screwjob than it is to today.
The only full time guys still around are Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston, and The Miz. Ziggler debuted shortly after I started watching. Morrison and Shelton left and came back.

OK this one is freaking me out a bit. Hogan just somehow seems so infinitely ancient(I say this as a fan of his wrasslin). Jericho being older than 2002 Hogan just somehow seems impossible. Its like Hogan is something out of Cthulhu and no wrestler can ever be older than ancient one Hogan. At the time of the Billionaire Ted's Wrasslin' War Room skits mocking how senile and decrepit he is, Hulk Hogan was the same age AJ Styles is right now. Here's another one: If you were watching the Attitude Era as a teenager, you are now older than Hulk Hogan when he slammed Andre the Giant. It's the skullet. It always makes Hogan look like this crazy wrestling grandpa. I was born 5 weeks after Wrestlemania III. I will be 33 this year. Hogan was 33 at Wrestlemania III. That just blew my mind.
