Based on the patterns established in other countries, the US is a couple of days away from having 3K deaths from this pandemic. The last singular disaster that resulted in that many American lives lost was used as justification to invade two other countries and depose their leadership. I wonder what we will do in response to this?

Someone from the Walmart about 20 or so minutes away tested positive. My idiot brother, who won't keep his ass to home despite knowing full well that he's absolutely f***ed if he catches it, has been visiting that particular Walmart quite often, including a trip there yesterday.
WTF.

Here's a video that describes that people in Wuhan complained that the quarantine is too long:

My father in law does construction and his biggest gig each year is the auto show in Detroit at Cobo Hall building stages and things. (Think it has a new name, but it’s where WCW used to run if you aren’t familiar)
That fell through obviously.
He just got the call that he is back to work on a project at Cobo - working on converting it to a makeshift hospital.
He is nearly 60 and had smoked most of his life. My wife is stressing hard about him going back out, but if there is a job worth doing that is definitely it.

If they're working on making it a makeshift hospital, they will have disinfected the shit out of it before any construction crew goes in there. In the building he should be fine, they wouldn't let anybody in there to work if it wasn't disinfected. They especially wouldn't let anybody in there to work on making it a hospital if it wasn't disinfected.

I feel guilty when I go to the grocery store. I know that can't be an easy job to do right now and I try to not make things difficult. The cashier at the store in my area usually double bags my groceries as I walk and there have been times where the bag I was carrying tore. I felt bad because i don't know if they could spare a couple of extra bags during this time.

The last singular disaster that resulted in that many American lives lost was used as justification to invade two other countries and depose their leadership. I wonder what we will do in response to this? Once again, let's keep these remarks to a minimum 1) That previous incident was 19 years ago. That is long enough ago that I am talking history. I could have also referenced the attack on Pearl Harbor, whose death toll we probably exceed today, which also led to war (though that one was much more understandable). 2) I posted that late at night so I was inelegant. My point was do we reflect on our own flaws this time or do we yet again let those forces cause us to lash outwards again. Let’s face it; there were people who profited off of invading Iraq. The justification for the invasion of Iraq was that they were involved in 9/11 and were developing nuclear weapons. Those were blatant lies, told to us by not only the government, but also by the media and others looking to profit off of the war. Instead of rationally assessing what we needed to do to prevent further disasters, Americans were looking to lash outwards, making them susceptible to those lies. Today, many of those that spread those lies are now trying to get Americans to lash outwards again. The sheer number of conspiracy theories suggesting this all was the results of deliberate acts from either China or maybe North Korea is nauseating, especially since they are being encouraged by some prominent people. In short, we need to improve our medical infrastructure, not find another country to punish.

If history is any guide, America would react to this crisis by attacking a country completely unrelated to the virus. If anything is to be learned about this situation it is that America needs a national health service. The private sector is on the verge of collapse, and clearly cannot do shit unless guided and ordered by state power. It would also help if people started placing leaders in positions of authority who know what a virus is.

Just came back from Walmart. Given what's going on I only go on weekends and as early as I can so usually at 7am. Just went in, got what I needed, left and I'm good. When it's that early usually I don't see many people and it's easy for me to manage.

My wife and I each have a respective co-worker we were in contact with in the last 2 weeks that are in self-quarantine due to symptoms. Of course, their symptoms aren't severe enough to get tested. We've been doing our best to stay at home with the lone exception of going to work or the store. Shit is getting real.

I wonder what we will do in response to this? Another hypothetical, what if other countries do something, like if North Korea, Pakistan or Myanmar decide to capitalize by taking some territory from their neighbors if any of them is too preoccupied to do something or maybe China itself? Could Taiwan or Hong Kong capitalize on this if another revolution happens if the present government is too unstable to do anything and China gets another movement similar to the end of their second Civil War?

So, the US surgeon general addressed potential cities that may see spikes in cases.
I'm feeling very comfortable to be on this list right now [/sarcasm]. Especially given that people are likely to now panic even more and bottleneck grocery stores, thus aggravating the problem. Luckily for me, I don't have to worry so much about going places.

Target's more my store to dawdle.

That number showing how far behind testing others are is nutty.
South Korea is testing 6000+ per million a day
Where as the US only 314 per million

Philippines. Two weeks into the quarantine. Two more weeks, but after that who knows? Might be extended, which is a worry. Might not be extended... which is also a worry, for different reasons.
In general, I'm at home, with the rest of the family. It's okay, though since my work is at home, I'm used to being alone in the house most of the day. Having the rest of the family for the weekday feels different. Like, we get along, but it's certainly a different situation. Past 1AM is nice, since I'm awake and can generally lean back and relax. Hell, since the rest of the family is here, I get to do less housework. Basically just clean the dishes for lunch, maybe dinner as well. Several other relatives live in close proximity, and sometimes they drop by to share extra food. Food ain't an issue, but hey, 5 kilos of chicken means less trips outside.
More or less volunteered to be the one who goes outside. Parents are old, sibling can be a bit of a germaphobe so I'm the best one for the job. Not much going out though. For most part, it's just walking the dog, in a neighborhood that's pretty much quiet for pretty much all year round, or getting several water bottles refilled. And don't really go out beyond the subdivision. Out there there's a lot of traffic with the numerous checkpoints. Thankfully there's a convenience store, a small grocery, and a supermarket just before going out of the subdivision, so really if I really have to go out it won't be far and there won't be a lot of people there.
Aside from that, nothing really notable. Some restaurants and fast food chains here (the latter being at the entrance of the subdivision) are offering frozen ready to cook items from their menu, which is tempting. Some fast food fried chicken and fries. That would be nice, but food supply is good so no point.
Honestly, when this is over, and by over I mean vaccine and stuff, which will take a long while... anyway, when this is all over I'm gonna treat myself to a big fast food meal. Or just a big, greasy burger with a slab of cheese. Something to look forward to, I suppose.
