Might help explain why Dr. Fauci has reportedly agreed to throw the ceremonial first pitch for the Nationals' Opening Day game.

Cubs really having a horrible season. It’s July and there’s not a single fan in the stands. Trade all these bums! No one tell Lee Elia but it looks like all those Cubs fans finally got jobs.

Anybody here in the US, and has either a Sprint account or a T-Mobile account, they're offering the 2020 season on the MLB.tv app for free.

The casino boat near where my dad is spending the summer is offering sports betting on site now. Since this season has a good chance for bat shit crazy things to happen...I had him bet $10 each for the Orioles to win the AL East, AL Pennant and the World Series. I’ll bet $30 to win $10,000 any day of the week.

If you're looking for good news these days, look no further than the story of Daniel Bard. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29484218/daniel-bard-makes-rockies-roster-seven-year-absenceThis is arguably the happiest I've been for an athlete who isn't recovering from disease or loss of a loved one. What that ESPN story fails to mention is that the Boston Red Sox organization practically willfully destroyed Daniel Bard's career back in 2012, taking a promising young relief pitcher and converting him to a starting pitcher under the guise of "InNiNgS aRe ImPorTaNt," despite the fact that Bard had struggled as a starter at every level, but succeeded as a reliever at every level. Despite everyone with a functioning brain knowing that converting Bard to a starter was bound to be a disaster, the Red Sox went ahead with it anyway, and he flamed out, as was expected. They had the heir apparent to Jonathan Papelbon as the team's surefire closer waiting in the wings, but they decided "nah, let's see if we can maybe turn him into a middle-of-the-road fourth starter instead." If he has nothing left in the tank at age 35, then so be it, but I'm damn happy to see he'll open the season on a big-league roster. It's just too bad the Rockies don't play the Pittsburgh Pirates this season, because I would love to see him get the chance to stuff it down Pirates general manager (and former Red Sox GM) Ben Cherington's throat after what Cherington did to his career eight years ago.

Saw a little bit of "Summer Camp" highlights, and honestly, with crowd sweetening, the lack of a crowd doesn't really stand out to me. Regular season games are pretty tame anyway, the crowds really get super pumped in the playoffs, but if you have fake crowd buzzing as background noise, you hardly notice the difference unless you're actively looking at the empty seats.
The NBA might have a harder time without a crowd than baseball, but curious to see how that looks.

That and his music will surely grant a morale bonus to his team.

These games are making it clear that some teams are probably going to run away immediately with the divisions. Houston's probably going to go 52-8, and I'm being generous.

The NBA might have a harder time without a crowd than baseball, but curious to see how that looks. The Red Sox' first "summer camp" home game at Fenway Park was this evening and I was amazed at how, well, ordinary it all felt. I really thought I was going to dislike the ballpark's audio playing simulated crowd noise, but I felt it really contributed to the normalcy of the entire affair, as it came through perfectly on television, even if the beat writers in attendance whined about how it didn't sound right in person. Even the empty seats didn't feel all too out of the ordinary, as there were team personnel and photographers camped out in a handful of seats directly behind home plate, which helped to give it more of a feel of your everyday July baseball game. I thought I liked that a lot more than what I saw at Citi Field during the Yankees-Mets game last Saturday night, with the cardboard cutouts of fans just creepily, blankly staring back at you from the backstop. All in all, considering how out of the ordinary everything is, they did a pretty decent job at making it feel surprisingly mundane tonight. And given how everything has been since March, I'll take mundane every day of the week.

My buddy and I released a preview of the upcoming season on my podcast this evening. It is episode 14, which is much different from other episodes, but it’s something we both enjoy discussing. We previewed each division and picked our winners from each one, each league, and the World Series. We also picked award winners from each league as well! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/one-more-ride/id1508801391

Empty stands, only 60 games, fake crowd noise, Gabe Kapler throwing a new pitcher every inning, preseason... I don’t care. It’s so nice to have baseball back on the TV. I missed sportsball a lot.
Bring on the real games Thursday!

Rumor is it’s going to be around 10 years and between $350-400 mil, but that’s just speculation. If Mookie is bypassing free agency, then he’s definitely getting a record contract for anyone not named Trout.

I was so upset watching that play out in real time. Our organization made a lot of mistakes during those years and that was right up there. So happy to see him succeeding. I looked up my posts from the 2011-12 off-season and 2012 season to see how I felt about the Daniel Bard experiment in real time and it was exactly how I remembered it. I was incredulous during the 2011-12 off-season that the Red Sox would consider taking a pitcher who had a career 2.88 ERA and 1.05 WHIP - including 25 consecutive scoreless appearances in 2011 - in three dominant seasons as a reliever and decided to throw that all away and convert him to a starter, where he'd never succeeded. I was furious at the Red Sox early in the 2012 seasons as Bard struggled as a starter, which everyone could see coming, and then I was despondent as Bard flamed out and was sent down to the minors and was never able to recover.

Thought Dodgers would ride it out and try to get him around the $300 mill range because the owners going cry broke on spending after the pandemic but they putting up the money
