Tony Fernandez was one of my absolute favourite players growing up.
He was just a wizard at SS and I used to always try to do his sidearm toss to first.
I’m really sad. RIP.

Above all else a class act too. It was great the Jays brought him back in 1993 to get the ring for him. Him returning in 1998 and 1999 and putting together two amazing seasons was something else. And him returning in 2001 to finish his career there was also amazing.

Lowrie showed up with a large brace on his knee in Met camp. What an awful signing that turned out to be.

I honestly didn't consider them getting beaned but now that he brought it up, someone probably will take one in the ribs Oh, it's going to be brutal. I wonder if the Astros are going to try and defend themselves all year or eventually just say "f*** it" and lean into the narrative that they are evil and antagonize people? Was thinking about getting an Astros jersey last season, but right now that seems like a very poor decision. At least I always got my local minor league team, and they never do anyone dirty.

I don’t condone what Houston did but the Dodgers are coming across as a bunch of whiny bitches at this point. They didn’t take care of business. Period.
They split the first two games in LA. Houston only won 2 out of 3 in Houston with their access to the video footage. One of those games was a 13-12 slugfest. Then they split the series in LA again where the Dodgers put up a measly one run in the deciding game. Their offense shit the bed.
I’d say the Yankees have a bigger gripe. They actually got swept in Houston the series before. They got cheated more than the Dodgers.

What the hells Trout going to do? He’ll do what all baseball players do and eventually shut up and collect a huge paycheck. Lebron is one of the most famous athletes in the world. When he speaks, even if he says something dumb people listen. Not sure Mike Trout is in the top 150 most popular athletes in the world.

They actually got swept in Houston the series before. They got cheated more than the Dodgers. To make matters worse, the Yankees are a team that's already been fined for using electronics to very likely steal signs (Apple watches), and both they and the Dodgers have had teams questioning if they've got some kind of system similar to Houston's, though perhaps not as overt as what the Astros were doing. That said, I 100% agreed with Justin Turner for ripping into Manfred today based on the ridiculous press conference Manfred did yesterday. Dude's trying to sweep so much shit under the rug, is carrying so much water for the owners that he's going to drown in it, and now he's referring to winning the World Series as "just a piece of metal", which goes to show how little of a shit he gives about the game and how much he's just in this for the money. Turner was right: the only thing wrong with the World Series trophy is it has to have this commissioner's name on it. And you know it's going to get uglier, by the way: the owners have already turned their teams into personal ATMs yet they still want to crush the union, still want to cry poverty over new stadiums and renovations, still want to cry about the luxury tax (you can more than afford Mookie Betts, Boston, you greedy shitheels), and it's going to lead to labor unrest sooner than later. Hell, the way a lot of players are speaking up this week makes me feel like an inevitable reckoning is coming sooner than expected now, and it's going to suck. But worry not, true believers! Mighty Manfred has just the solutions the league needs! What's that, you say? We need to find a way to grow the game's appeal to kids and neglected communities or risk having an aging, dwindling base of paying fans in the near future? We should try to work around this by making the game more accessible by lifting blackout restrictions, embracing streaming, having Saturday games start at 1pm again and stop running national broadcasts at 8:40pm EST? Don't be silly! All we need to do is get rid of the intentional walk and make relievers face three batters an outing, that'll bring the kiddos right back into the fold and knock a whole 12.4 seconds off the average game time! CRISIS AVERTED, CITIZENS!

Add Aubrey Huff to the pile of jackasses that act like little bitches when their vile social media posts have consequences. He’s not invited to the 2010 World Series reunion because of his tweets. The two biggest offenders are him posting pictures from the shooting range saying he’s training his sons in case certain presidential candidates defeat the incumbent and that we should kidnap Iranian women and fly them back here to feed us grapes.
Then in typical fashion of how these assholes operate, he accuses the Giants of “politically correct, progressive bullshit”, basically doubling down on his behavior. No Aubrey, you’re just a piece of shit that can’t deal with the blowback. You’re one step away from being a psycho operating a militia in the woods if you aren’t already. Go away.

Can the commish even go back and punish them again without their being interference from the players union?
What I would have done?
Stripped them of the WS and leave that year vacant. Loss of draft picks Hefty fine Barred from the postseason for 3 seasons (essentially the amount of time they did this) 1 year suspension w/out pay

You even point out that they lost 2 games in Houston, where Houston had the camera. The Dodgers got cheated, and the Yankees got cheated twice (no doubt in my mind right now that Altuve was wearing a buzzer). The Dodgers have every right to be pissed about 2017.

There are numerous people who cover this stuff who think the sign stealing stuff is pervasive across all of baseball. Joe Sheehan is probably the most level headed when it comes to covering this as he isn't going apeshit like some of the reporters and is saying this is like steroids, a wide spread problem that they didn't care about and now to scapegoat the Astros is basically shoving blame. Then we watch other players/teams lose their minds in a deflection when in reality they were doing it too. He also had my favorite comeback to Bellingers shit also...yes their video made you hit 143 in that WS didn't it?

Yeah, again, teams like LA and the Yankees have already either been dinged for using technology in the dugout or have had other teams level some interesting accusations against them, as well. It sticks out to me that, according to the stories being presented, Carlos Beltran arrived in Houston and told them "You guys aren't keeping up with the rest of the league with your sign stealing, let me get you caught up"; the team he was coming from, of course, was the Yankees. This is a pervasive problem, the Astros were probably just too overt about it, and Manfred's handled it poorly with the way he's basically shifted all consequences to GMs and managers...never the owners, of course, since he's their paid waterboy.

If Trout was on the Yankees or the Dodgers, people would listen more, but he's stuck with the Angels, and they won't make the playoffs as usual. I'm not denying Trout has a legit grievance, but in baseball, your standing has more of an impact if you're on certain teams, sadly.

Also the fact that Trout and mLB don't really advertise him like they should Trout doesn't put himself out there and MLB isn't do all they could to put him in a position where he is the face of baseball. He's the best player in Baseball but he's not the face of it
