twitter.com/ovppodcast/status/1231166161775157248In case you missed when it was put on WWE Network last year, here is Lex Luger doing a full ring entrance as WWF Champion. This was done to make hardcore fans think Luger was getting the title at WrestleMania 10.

Maybe there was something to that story about Luger getting drunk and leaking spoilers to a reporter after all.

The idea was to make smart fans think they did the segment so that they could show that Luger entrance on TV after WrestleMania. They did the same thing with Ultimate Warrior (with the IC title) and Virgil (with the Million Dollar Championship) a few years earlier. Non-televised angle to get them the belt, taped their matches and/or interviews with the belt, belt is returned to the heel the same night in another non-televised segment.

That belt looks natural on him. I think he would’ve done ok as champion. Not as good as Bret, but ok.

I remember seeing a pic of this online years ago, but never thought we would see the taped segment. I think he would've been decent as champ, probably a few months before losing.

He looks the part, but the theme song just about kills it for me.

Luger vs. Diesel, Owen Hart and Bob Backlund.
Interesting if that happened.
Lex Luger vs. Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XII in an Iron-Man Match?

I’ll repeat what I said on Twitter this morning “Shouldn’t have announced quiet time before filming this”.

Right above the video: " 2/22/94: Lex Luger is introduced as the WWF World Champion to screw with Jim Cornette (in kayfabe) and possibly other people in real life." Comment section: "He was supposed to win the WWE title from Yokozuna at SummerSlam (? I think) the one where they did the whole confetti and lifting him on their shoulders on a DQ finish. This was taped prior to that to air afterward then they changed their minds."

In those cases though those guys actually were winning the belts. They had taping dates before the matches they were winning their titles that were airing afterwards. So they did they steel the belt gimmick as an excuse for why Warrior has the IC belt even though HTM was still the champion. With Luger it was just to F with Meltzer & Keller.

This was just a month before WrestleMania 10, so Luger actually getting the title from Yokozuna was out the window by this point.
