April has had many looks, and was definitely rather racially ambiguous in the Mirage comics. This isn't even the first time April's been black. I can't really begin to be upset about it, especially given the metric ton of TMNT series out there. If someone has an issue with this April, wait like 6 months to get another in a given game, show, movie, or comic book. If you are rebooting things as often as TMNT does change it as much as you can. Honestly other then them being Turtles and ninjas and teenagers change whatever details for an interesting story Hell, wouldn't even mind if they ever just did "Ninja Turtles" and it's like them in their 20s or older if the setup made sense for it.

Like a next mutation of some sort?

This is one of the many movies I had in the "Saved" section of my Netflix queue that Netflix quietly removed over the last week after the announced they were discontinuing their DVD by mail service.

If you had “Paramount found the Zombie Kid and had him involved in the marketing for a new TMNT movie” on your 2023 Bingo Card then congratulations, you can mark it down now!
Oh and, the final trailer for the film I guess

Just got back from seeing this and enjoyed it a lot, it was so much fun. Wildly different take from the usual tmnt stories, but despite a few minor gripes and grumbles I had, I liked a lot of the changes for the most part. Jackie Chan's Splinter was a standout for me. Very funny. The end credit scene was EXACTLY what I wanted, so I'm extremely excited for future instalments. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Shredder!

Without spoiling the rest of the movie, do Monty Moose or Half-Court Giraffe show up?

I know people groan at Rotten Tomatoes, but 97% so far for TMNT:MM.

Damn, pretty crazy how positive the word is on this; by the sound of it, this one's kind of the first TMNT iteration that actually places an emphasis on the "teenage" part of the title. I get why that hasn't been the case before: the earliest comics were sendups of Dark Age series and thus directed at an older audience, the '87 series was more squarely aimed at grade school kids who wouldn't really relate to the issues teenagers go through, and later versions were often playing off what came before and thus walking the line between those two versions. The 1990 movie, which still holds up really well to me, nevertheless wasn't super well received by critics when it debuted, likely because they either thought it was too dark for something they only knew of based on the '87 cartoon, or because the backstory might just feel like too much to people who aren't already fans.
But for this one, as it's well known now, the turtles are actually voices by real teens; the movie's aesthetic definitely has that Spiderverse/pop art/modern hip hop inspired sensibility; and the story/dialog really drive home how the brothers interact with one another as young people and want simple things, like just being able to blend in to the world around them. Given how much that approach hits the cultural nerve these days (again, Spiderverse has to be an influence, here), and how much more focused and less demanding it is in terms of needing people to already have familiarity with the world of the Turtles, can't say it's too shocking it's resonating with critics, and likely with audiences.
