Didn’t someone contract a disease at Wrestlemania a few years ago? I could’ve sworn that happened

This is an international health crisis, come on. Well if the Owen Hart situation taught me anything its that making money is kinda more important than anything else to them. If they were so worried about giving refunds and such that night following that. So yeah cancelling thier biggest event of the year doesn't even seem like there's a remote chance of it happening with all the money they'd stand to lose. WWE doesn't want the headline to be "tens of thousands quarantined in Tampa at WWE' Wrestlemania over Coronavirus concerns". This big international fly-in show pulling in people from all over the world and even all over the US itself. I definitely think there's an element of self-preservatio nto this, because Wrestlemania is not business as usual, and with the life of other big events hanging in the balance right now, if WWE does it in the face of a big risk and it turns into a huge incident, the company is going to take a huge hit.

Yeah, it'd be an absolutely massive disaster for them if that happened. It'd probably heavily damage the drawing power of Mania itself for years to come for fear of something like that happening again and that might well be the least of their problems with it. Passing on the paycheck in the moment is by far the safer monetary option.

I think WWE might be able to follow the trends of other sports too. By Wrestlemania, all of the NCAA conference tournaments and most of the NCAA tournament are scheduled to have taken place. Major League Baseball will be a week and a half into their season. The NHL and NBA will be gearing up for their playoffs. If those events are all still happening without many special restrictions, I don’t see why WWE can’t proceed. I know Wrestlemania is more of a world wide event, but if this gets to a scale where it’s too hazardous to have Wrestlemania, many of these events would have already been disrupted.

There's always events and concerts happening somewhere, where people are coming all over the world. WrestleMania weekend is full of other things other than WWE anyways. I don't think they're gonna do anything about it. I bet it would take something like over hundred cases in Florida, so they would even think about cancelling.

Hopefully it doesn't come to this but whereas other sports aren't saying it at least WWE are saying it. Several other sports are already doing it. Six Nations Rugby has already postponed one match involving Italy. Football games in Italy have been cancelled. They’re already drawing up contingency plans for the Euro 2020 tournament if needs be. The World Indoor Athletics Championships have been postponed a year. Oh Jeez I didn't even think about the Euros this year. They picked the right year to try this stupid touring tournament thing, didn't they?

Wrestlemania's going to be over 60k for attendance, the NHL and NBA playoffs do not operate on that scale in one city and with that much travel, before we get into other things like Axess to draw it out. There are going to be tens of thousands of tourists crammed into Tampa doing shit all week with WWE events, but also indie shows, Wrestlecon, hitting the city proper. In other countries, things are already at a scale where that's an issue, soccer teams playing in empty arenas, Japanese events and wrestling shows put on hold, the Olympics in potential peril. The NCAA is big in overall scale for coverage and ratings, not so much for the mass travel.

I was thinking more about how other promotions and so won't be caring about the thing at all, so the damage might still be done - WrestleMania event itself there or not.

Yea, and that's the thing WWE is taking into account. They have a lot of shit to factor in and that travel thanks to their international audience is a big factor. Add on things out of there control but due to their presence like Tampa being a hot wrestling weekend thanks to Mania, you are going to have a lot of bodies and that could make shit complicated

I'm going to make a prediction. WM is what, a month away? It won't happen. At least in Florida. April is still flu season and more than enough time for the Wuhan coronavirus to become established in the US. I don't expect any major public events happening until things (ideally) start to settle down in May/June.
Countries in Europe are already banning gatherings over a certain number of people.
WM Riyadh is a real possibility. Saudi Arabia is very insulated against Wuhan coronavirus because it's - 1) Very sparsely populated, 2) Very hot and dry, and 3) Absolutely no tourists go there until Hajj season.
