Well, I’m open minded so this could either be really good or really bad. But based on the majority of recent WWE storylines my hopes are very low.

So they're turning him into 1996 HBK? Does that mean his first feud will involve someones wife accusing him of hitting on her?

If this was a Drew Galloway in Peak Lucha Underground type deal, I reckon most folk would be curiously optimistic.
This is a Drew McIntyre in Vince McMahon's WWE, god knows what nightmare horror is produced.

I'm guessing this is going to make Sub Rosa look subtle in its Scottishness.

If this was a backstory being developed in LU We would get flashbacks of this mentor as some grizzled sword weilding legend of the battle field....heads being chopped off (would not be the first...or second time) and him soaked in blood just to show you that even though he is old and worn in present day...he was not to be f***ed with. Drew would fly via chopper to a castle all alone in the middle of nowhere in Ireland because this man chose to isolate himself because of his violent tendencies and chose to live and eventually die alone. Of course Drews arrival would piss him off and would try to kill him ...and it would end with Drew having to kill him out of mercy with the mans own sword...and then Drew would show up to the big match with that sword in hand. Now I am sad the backstory isn't written within LU.

I definitely like the idea of world building and backstory. It didn’t play out the best, but I liked when they brought in Shelton Benjamin’s momma to give him a new dimension to his character and someone to play off of.
No guarantee it’s going to work, but I like the idea in theory and I’m glad they’re trying something.

Knowing how subtle the WWE can be, this is either gonna be a Fat Bastard or Scotty from star trek caricature...

I mean I get what their angle is. It's just Braveheart. A Scottish warrior noble. The issue here is that there's no reason to have some random actor filling the role, just do it with goddamn Finlay or someone

This is obviously leading to another Battle of the Billionaires. But this time it will be Drew representing Scrooge McDuck, and Brock repping Flintheart Glomgold.

oh for f***s sake...
He doesn't NEED this.
I said the same thing about Arn Anderson with Cody, but this is Vince we're talking about here. We'll see what happens.

Why not just use Dave Taylor? Yes, he's not Scottish, but he helped show Drew the ropes early in his WWE run, like the time the Nasty Boys decided they were going to take liberties. At least there'd be some personal connection there.
They're so totally going to Groundskeeper Willie this, with vignettes by a lake that's totally Loch Ness.

That reference is a deep cut Wasn’t it the gym? Or was that someone else? The pinnacle of Drew McIntyre's career. They should bring Chavo back to be his wise Scottish mentor.

heelbynature.com/wrestling-news/wwe-news/wwe-to-introduce-drew-mcintyres-mentor-for-up-coming-tug-of-war-vignette/WWE is set to introduce a character portraying Drew McIntyre’s mentor for up-coming vignettes. As first reported by Fightful Select (subscription required), WWE has put out a casting call in Scotland in search of a man to play character named “Gameskeeper”, who will act as McIntyre’s father figure. WWE is looking for a male aged between 60 and 80 years old for a shoot set to take place on 3/12 near Loch Lomond, Scotland The casting company has released the following information regarding the shoot. In the ever so eloquent words of Matt Riddle: BRO....WHAT IN THE f*** Jesus Christ....you have already ruined the build for Brock losing to Drew by having Drew do basically nothing because they only have Lesnar sporadically and now....NOW....Drew needs some mentor with this dumb ass Gameskeeper name and needing a casting call to get this guy. If you want to do this, it is so freaking easy. Do what you did with Jose Lothario being someone from HBK's past to help train Shawn. Drew I'm sure has someone from his past who train him so hire him for a short term.

I hope they go into excruciating detail on how every facet of Drew's characterization has come together over the years, putting over that this guy instilled in him a love of rock music, his job, and KELLEH.

I'd much prefer they go the time traveling route with Drew... Make him the reverse of that show "Outlander" - A Scotsman from the past who has traveled to the future through a mystical stone. And his titantron should by various artistic pictures of him in half open frilly shirts clutching maidens. But yeah, some weird Scottish lord guy with a gamekeeper works, I guess....

Not to mention, the Sword would have the spirit of some Scottish Mythological Monster sealed inside it that Drew could call upon as a power boost in times of desperation, but the more he did it, the more he would risk losing his body to the Monster and having his soul sealed inside the sword instead.

The thing with mentors is that whoever that is was supposedly around for all of Drew's decisions. And if you remember Crew's WWE run, it would make his Mentor look absolutely foolish.
Can't see how this will fail.
