I remember back in 2000 we'd go into school and talk about our favourite moments, quotes, matches etc. I feels like that again the first time in ages. Things standing out on a weekly basis rather than never-ending sameness. This week alone had the gambling, social distancing best friends, Sammy singing, Jericho's commentary and two big debuts. That doesn't even cover everything. Having consistent characters driving those moments helps a lot, they're not just random. Bryan Alvarez summed it up nicely by saying that if you follow AEW, you get that much more out of it, that something already good will be great, and your investment in the characters, angles, etc, is rewarded. Not like this is always not the case or something with WWE, some stuff pays off, but given their last-minute rewarites, continuity and long-term planning takes a shellacking very often. Just reading this and watching beyond the mat not long ago makes me think in today's wwe we would just have mankind quit in the I quit match. No follow through with story. Just mankind quit no explanation and then he would lose to a returning Brutus beefcake and they would wonder why no one gave a shit.

Man. 32 myself, and seeing the age range in this thread...any of the rest of y'all have that feeling like WWE was really good for just long enough to be a fan for life, but then frustrated for the 14-18 years ever since? Kinda, yeah. I'm 34. Came back to wrestling after the pipe bomb. Started being iffy on it after the Shield break-up. Completely gave up again after the HIAC Wyatt/Rollins incident. I thought I'd only end up watching AEW here and there, but I actually look forward to it every week. I'm sure there will be another big moment in WWE that will get me following it again for a bit...But I also see myself taking another long break after something asinine.

I only have a few WWE merch items since 2007 but I wear em regularly cause idgaf, but point is I literally can’t recall ever (not. Once) someone in public pointing it out and talking to me about it. In the span of a year, I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had in public with strangers from wearing AEW merch. Literally, the last two, hand on my heart, were in the last two days: Two days ago, kid looking mid-late-20s working a Starbucks called out my jacket and we shoot the shit for five minutes, and he brings up the Dynamite episode, NWA powerrr etc lol Second was last night hitting up the supermarket during Quarantine, guy looked in his late 30s and just flashes me the “Too Sweet” sign. It could be because it’s a “new” product. So maybe people see someone repping it in public and they’re like “ohhh fellow” fan. But I think there’s something to the “lapsed fan” theory and this sense of “This is fun/cool to talk about again”.

There's definitely some in-fandom rumbling that "good wrestling exists again" that is reaching mainstream awareness. I've overheard people in other departments at my work discussing AEW, and almost anyone I have mentioned my new wrestling kick to has mentioned some awareness that there is a new thing in wrestling that people are excited about. This is especially crazy because TNA never, ever got this reaction during its peak years, even when it was materially more popular than AEW. The future is weird.

My mom's roommate doesn't "like" wrestling. He doesn't get it, doesn't get why I watch it....but he bought and hid away a Dean Ambrose shirt for me (this was before he left and joined AEW so I wasn't upset) because he knew that Ambrose was my favorite wrestler. Like...it's the idea that he took my like for this into consideration that made me think "This is a big deal again."

I'm loving it, so many great talents. I haven't properly watched wrestling for a couple of years, I've sort of kept up with stuff, but it hasn't been a must watch for a while.
I'm loving AEW. Love the amount of tag and trios stuff they do, a big fan of Orange Cassidy, Jurassic Express, Private Party and Darby Allin. I'm also a great fan of the womens division, Kris Statlander, Riho and Hikaru Shida are great! Its nice to consistently have great womens wrestling with time for the wrestlers to shine. (My favourite is Yuka though!)

Yeah, 32 years old and watching a weekly wrestling show religiously for the first time since I was about 16/17. Not something I ever thought would happen again, but I'm glad it has.

Around 2011, I started cutting back on TNA and I did the same with WWE after they botched the CM Punk leaving angle, becoming more of a casual fan. Watching AEW and MLW on a regular basis is the first time in years where I've had a love for wrestling, rather than something I casually like to keep up with.
