I never see Sean William Scott mentioned or in anything. And during the 90s, he was in every comedy movie it seemed. He was the face of 90s comedy During the 90s? The first American Pie came out in 1999. 😊 So early 2000s is more accurate.

Yeah... surprisingly the guy that took on Mel Gibson's role ... was also a jackass from what I remember... so he was replaced ... and then I think Keenan Ivory Wayans (who played Danny Glover's character) said he was done and the show ended.

Speaking of UK panel shows (never knew Lee Mack presented at all!) where did Mark Lamarr go after leaving Never Mind The Buzzcocks? Think he had a Radio 6 show for a while, but nothing significant TV wise after that?

ESPN Sportscenter, particularly the 11pm show Van Pelt killed it.

Season one of Heroes was gigantic and got a ton of love, season two while it fell off at least still had plenty of people watching and complaining about it, don't think anybody cares about anything that came after that and the revival fell flat on its face. Sheldon Cooper: "Heroes gradually lowered the quality season by season till we were grateful it ended." The writers strike effing up season 2 kinds out a skewer in Heroes. It was never able to recover and died a slow lonely death

The Heroes revival was probably doomed regardless of quality. The series had a novelty before the MCU was in full swing and the Arrowverse existed. Once you had those, Heroes couldn't help but feel like the generic brand cereal of superhero shows.

Some more UK ones are Skins and Shameless. Both were massive initially and had genuine cultural significance in the early 2000's. I remember going to Skins club nights when I was a teenager and feeling like it was a direct depiction of what it was like to 18 in the UK at that time. The trouble being with that is that it only represented you for a brief moment in time giving it one of the shortest shelf lives ever. I think it went on for quite a few series, but with an ever rotating cast, presumably to attract an ever rotating viewership.
Shameless was one of the best written shows I'd ever seen when it first came out and had an amazing cast too. Unfortunately along the way it lost most of its best cast members as they moved onto bigger and brighter things and the show suffered massively. Eventually it veered into a parody of its former self and it went from being essential viewing to 'that show I used to watch' before eventually fizzling out with a skeleton crew of characters.
Just remembered Sugar Rush too which was another massive hit for Channel 4, but suffered from the same feat as Skins in that it was aimed at a very specific teen audience and therefore was almost instantly forgotten, despite being a commercial and critical success. Wikipedia tells me that it occasionally shared a time slot with Big Brother which might actually be the ultimate answer to this question. The biggest water cooler show in the UK for its first few series to complete insignificance within a few years.

Apologies if this was already mentioned, but I find this happens with modern video games far too often. I normally don't buy many AAA games on release.
There's this thing --- maybe it's society's growing fear of missing out, maybe it's the need to feel like you're on the current pulse of what's happening --- where people will play through a game and discard it for the next big title just as quickly. Almost as if they're keeping up appearances.
I don't like this. It feels gatekeepy and somewhat artificial to me. Like some kind of corporate influence is causing people to lose interest in one game, barely finish it, and gravitate toward the next big release. I'm not like that. I'll buy the game very late in its "lifespan" and slowly make my way through and 100% it as best I can. On the other hand, there's still so many games I haven't beaten yet. I guess our state's lockdown will make getting through that process much easier.
The same thing happens with, say, streaming TV series. I've had so many conversations at work where Person X would ask if I've watched The Mandalorian or Man In The High Castle and when I say no, they look at me all strange. Buddy, it's not me, it's you --- I have other interests I'm pursuing and that's okay (like endlessly rewatching Ken Burns' "The Vietnam War", the Criterion Collection Olympics boxset or 1973's "The World At War" documentary miniseries for the millionth time, lmao).
There's too much content out there, and a lot of it is so long and detailed that you can't always assume a person's always going to be into the latest thing. But don't outright shun someone for not seeing the hot movie/series/game just to keep up appearances.

Apparently Lamarr is a nasty piece of work behind the scenes. Pretty much burned his bridges with the BBC because of how unpleasant he was.

My wife, who is 11 years younger than me had no idea the Osbournes was ever a thing. That being said, she is a big hard rock fan and only knows his music. I remember when the Osbournes show was so huge, at least around where I was at the time, there were lots of people that only knew him from that or maybe had heard in the press that he bit the head off of a bat, but didn't know much about his music.

There was a time when The Real World, specifically the San Francisco season, was this cultural zeitgeist of life as a young person in America circa 1992. Then it became the forerunner to the sleazy hook up based reality shows of the 2000s. Now I don't even think it exist.

In terms of actors, I think it's more just purposely stepping out of the spotlight/not choosing successful projects/blackballed.
If they had a good project and did a good job and it's commercially successful, their top spot would be secured for as long as they are doing so.
John Travolta with Pulp Fiction in the 90's or Matthew McConaughey and his McConaissance in the 2010's, for example.
A more recent example being Renee Zellweger. She just won an Academy Award her first major role back after being gone for a while. She was an "it girl" for a bit and then she chose to step away for personal issues, rahter than losing popularity with the general audience.

Yeah, the Lethal Weapon remake was... actually pretty good for the first two seasons, but then after they killed off Riggs (because his actor was, uh, a knob), I lost interest entirely. And from what I remember hearing, Damon Wayans was leaving because he was wwas 58, diabetic, and working 16+ hour shifts on this show. But hey, speaking of TV reboots of popular movies, anyone remember there was a Rush Hour TV series?

A friend of mine went to see it filmed during the Lamarr/Jupitus/Bailey era, and one of his party - who I didn’t care for - saw Lamarr in the green room, knocked on the door and waved. Mark Lamarr’s response? ‘**** off, you ******* ****!’ Although I didn’t like the guy in question, it was still unnecessary.
