At least partly because "interview" already means something in wrestling-speak, so there has to be a specification. "Gimmick" means about 14 different things in wrestling-speak. I can't believe that "His gimmick was killed when the gimmick he brought to the ring was obviously gimmicked" is a logical sentence

1. Shoot as in not kayfabe 2. Clickbait. 'SHOOTS on some guy' is way more interesting than 'talks about what a nice guy some guy was'.

I thought it came from Shootfighting
Like if someone in the old days decided they didn’t want to lose the match then the other wrestler would apply legit moves from Shootfighting on them. So from there shooting went on and evolved to mean doing something that’s not meant to happen and not part of the show.
No idea if that’s right or not.

Same thing with someone being a "mark" also being used in multiple other things besides pro wrestling, to describe someone as being gullible, or they fell for some sort of con. that came from Carny/con man speak and is not limited to just wrestling. But only in wrestling does it mean to be excited for something or a fan of someone/yourself.

Cause shoot wrestling, is amateur wrestling where "shooting" is an actual move.

Then there's "over," simultaneously referring to popularity and who is taking the win. Imagine stating that the wrestler that gets the best reaction is going to win the final match of a tournament over a walkie talkie. "He's over so he's going over, then it's over, over."

Shooting in anywhere else but wrestling could be a serious crime.
