I think the biggest issue is that they didn't teach him how to use a knife and fork at the University of the Exalted.

I think what makes the Vince-isms work is that unlike anything TNA did, Brodie's actions in that taped vignette still work outside of any knowledge of Vince McMahon's eccentricities. If you had no idea who Vince McMahon was, then you saw Brodie as a charismatic, yet very controlling sociopath. The little references to Vince (getting mad someone ate before him; the sneezing) are more easter eggs than, well, anything TNA did. I think people also tend to forget how freakin' overt TNA was about its WWE references, especially when Russo was on the payroll. The "Voodoo Kin Mafia" name was complete nonsense and was made up as a name to rib on Vincent Kennedy McMahon's initials.

Evil Uno will turn on the Dark Order after Brodie recruits a bodybuilder and immediately makes him the focus of the group and fawns over him comfirmed. Brodie: “BRIAN CAGE.......WWWWOOOOOOWWWWWW!”

Well, the sneezing thing might be a jab at Vince, but it's absolutely justified to get upset at someone sneezing or coughing these days.

I think he's a mix of 1/4 Bruiser Brody, 1/4 Vince McMahon, 1/4 Eddie Guerrero and 1/4 of The Dark Lord himself.

The Sneezing part was less impactful but demanding to eat first and ripping on that guy for trying to eat was a great impact for his Evil Leader character

Let's be real though... is there ANYTHING that isn't being praised in AEW? The beatdown segment is still the worst moment Dynamite has ever had (it's the only thing they've really ever done that killed their live crowd), and they've really done nothing but string the group along since then to get to the Exalted One reveal. A reveal that, so far, is a character that takes shots at Vince. Women’s division Kenny’s booking Cody’s booking Nightmare collective The dark order Jr on commentary Brandi Cody’s entrance Cody’s tat Format of the show the first few months Darby’s booking Roster mainly being small Moxley vs omega SCU Nyla Rose Britt Baker I’ll add more as I think of them. Thank you Fade. The same people who critique everything about AEW seem to also feel AEW never gets any critiques. They're literally doing it. I'm kind of excited to look back at old Dark Order segments and see if there are any clues. Was the beatdown an allegory for NXT doing better in the ratings, or beating them that week? Has it always been an inside joke?

Has it always been an inside joke? If I had to guess, the “Vince” approach couldn’t have been decided too far back. Possible but I figure it was come up with more recently than not. I have to say, of all the directions I figured they’d take Brodie/the Exalted One in, a slight subtle parody of Vince was not one of them. It makes sense though. And as long as they don’t go HAM on it, continue walking that line, I think it could work.

I actually think this can work if they do it properly. Vince has every single characteristic of a cult leader. If someone knows his mannerisms and quirks, and can emulate them subtly without making it obvious that it is a Vince impression, then it might actually be both entertaining and good for Brodie's character.

I swear, I didn't pick up on the sneezing thing at all, and I listen to a ton of wrestling podcasts and know about it. The whole virus thing was more in my mind. Granted, once it was pointed out I thought "yeah, that probably was a dig at Vince." But it's a pretty subtle dig.

Hasn't NXT had a Tony Khan parody guy for a while now? What? No... But which one feeds Audrey II?

I also want to vouch that I had not heard either of those Vince stories, and I thought the segment worked amazingly for what it was going for. Sure, they may be drawn from Vince, but they're also the exact sorts of things that real life cult leaders like Darwin Gross and Tony Alamo would do.

Like Vince as a cult leader. I'm just waiting for him to bust out "Damn, pal" or "vascular" in a promo at some point. UN-BE-LIEVABLE!
