I remember recording WM2000 off of C4 (UK) and the tape running out just before the end of the main event. Because I wasn't watching week in/week out, I had no idea HHH won and just assumed Rock had won for years, especially as the next one I had recorded was Fully Loaded 2000 and Rocky was WWE champ. Took me years to realise he did the job at WM and actually won it at Backlash. Prepared for WM17 by buying a 4hr VHS tape and making sure it got everything this time round. Watched it so many times, I wore the tape out. WM wasn’t on Channel 4. They had the Rumble but Sky had the other three of the big four.

I remember watching WM6 live. Although Sky had been airing WWE PPVs and weekly shows for a while, actually airing Wrestlemania live was a pretty big deal for us. Even better was that it was during the Easter Holidays for schools, so although I was young, my parents allowed my sister and I to stay up late and watch it as we didn’t have school the next day. So on the day of Mania, Sky were showing Superstars in its usual Sunday lunchtime slot. As it went to commercial Sky put up an announcement saying that due to technical issues, they could no longer show it live. Young me threw a hissy fit and started sobbing. The ad break ended and as Superstars was about to come back on, Sky made another announcement saying “APRIL FOOL!” and that they were still showing it live. Bastards got me hook, line and sinker.
(Sadly, there actually were technical difficulties during the broadcast as the sound went out on more than one occasion. But as in 1990 live broadcasts of international events weren’t as slick as they are now, it wasn’t exactly the worst thing that could have happened).

I'm still disappointed in the fact that the first and only WrestleMania I ever attended in person is WrestleMania 32. Meh, I wouldn't be too disappointed man. A Wrestlemania is a Wrestlemania, it's like pizza, even if it's shit it's still pretty good. Also you got Jericho/Styles. True, you're right. I should be grateful at least that I got to attend WrestleMania, which is the top 5 dream of the wrestling world for sure. Still, I can't help but feel a little bitter that it sucked so hard and is only remembered for that fact. Some of my disappointment comes from before the show started when we all had to wait outside in the Texas heat for like 3 hours because they opened the doors late.

There's a reason most of my fond memories of that trip come from experiencing Takeover: Dallas. I've been to dozens of shows now, and there's very few things that top Zayn vs. Nakamura as an experience. I will give Mania 32 a bit of credit in its scale too. While the exact number might be a bit exaggerated, it sure the f*** looked like it could have been six digits. I've seen four other Manias, and they even looked small in comparison to Jerry's World. It really felt like they were people EVERYWHERE, and I made sure I took time during the main event to just look around the entire building and take in the sea of people from the floor to the rafters.

No definitely agree with that. I had never been in a huge stadium like that before, only smaller buildings, so that was surreal. I was way up closer to the top, hard cam side. The walk back out the arena was a doozy, for sure lol. Also, something I found kinda odd is that in front of me was I assume a young journalist of some sort, because she was taking notes. She didn't seem to be much of wrestling fan. Always wondered what that was about.

I paid a pretty penny for floor seats, which ended up being a curse, because after getting in, I had to make my way to the floor through a very crowded hallway, as we had to enter where the away side would be for an NFL game. If I had cheaper seats, I could have caught most of the Dudleys vs. Usos tag match.

Yeah I looked into this because I was utterly convinced I recorded it in my room (w/out Sky) but clearly not. No idea how I had a copy of WM recorded on tape because if Sky had it, it would have been on Box Office PPV and I wouldn't have been allowed to order it. One of life's many mysteries...

Getting the Rumble over Mania wasn’t actually not a bad result on paper for C4. A lot of casual fans from the early 90s when WWF was at its peak in the UK were a lot more interested in the Rumble than any other event and might not have even known Mania was the biggest show of the year. Of all the shows to get, they picked the right choice. Shame the ratings for wrestling on 4 were never that good. Sky showed PPVs on Sky Sports back then. The only ones they charged for were the UK exclusive PPVs that were on sky Box Office.

We'd not long moved house around 2000 so we must have had Sky installed by the time of WM 17. Christ, my memory is shot, do not remember having normal PPV's on Sky at all. Yeah it was definitely worth getting the Rumble on terrestrial TV on paper, if anything was to draw the casual fans in it would be that. It was a shame ratings weren't better, the AE was at its peak in terms of quality in 2000 so they had the right period of time in hindsight, and the 2001 Rumble is still one of the best ones there has ever been. I was a massive spotfest fan back then so I rewound the TLC match (and the triangle ladder match at wm2000) over and over again, more than anything else on the tape.

I started watching WWF in 2000 so my first WrestleMania was 17. In hindsight the buildup to Austin/Rock was pretty bad but it felt epic at the time mostly due to that famous video package. Wrestling was huge at my primary school at the time and everyone would talk about it. I remember during an assembly the teacher said "Who can name any religious festivals coming up?" and some kid put his hand up and said "WrestleMania" which got a big cheer, the teacher just laughed and said "That would be true if you worshiped the god of WWF".
As for the event itself, my friend had recorded it as it was on a school night. Unfortunately his recording stopped halfway through Undertaker vs Triple H so I didn't get to see the main event until a few years later.
