No shit. Nobody's improving the ratings in the long term.

Guys, I’m starting to feel like Punk came back more to spite Vince than anything.

Being that also Matt Hardy and Brodie Lee (Harper) both had a bunch of ideas to just be used on WWE TV in some role and all turned down.

Guys, I’m starting to feel like Punk came back more to spite Vince than anything. The fact that both Hunter and Steph have expressed a willingness to do business with Punk again while Vince is now the one who wants him out is boggling to me, because the opposite was true after he left.

No shit. Nobody's improving the ratings in the long term. He'll get a bump for 1 week and that will be it. It's nothing that will last. His appearances on Backstage did nothing for their ratings either.

Is he on every week? First time he was on, huge rating. Second time he was on, not so much. If he was on Smackdown every week, whatever ratings he brings in go away even faster.

Punk is the one man he won't do business with? Who was the last person...oh dear...did Punk fire up the DeLorean and have sex with a teenaged Stephanie?

I mean...
It was always Vince. It doesn't matter if a writer, official, backstage head, Triple H, wrestler, it doesn't matter what they pitch because at the end of the day it goes through Vince and if Vince likes it then he'll approve it and that's the basis of why we get the programming we get. If he wasn't responsible then he wouldn't be the "end all be all" when it comes to getting that final approval. It's not a situation where he's the final guy to give the approval on something, no. It's a situation where it goes to Vince and Vince has to like it and want it to happen and that's the only approval that's needed.
So yeah, he is responsible because his voice is the only one that matters when it comes to what we see. If others' voices mattered we would be getting a far different product given the majority opinion would overrule Vince's.

What time is Backstage on? What channel? Is he on every week? First time he was on, huge rating. Second time he was on, not so much. If he was on Smackdown every week, whatever ratings he brings in go away even faster. There is a reason for that. Nobody wants to see CM Punk in the long term to just talk. The first week many thought maybe he would announce he coming back to THE RING and for the fact he was on WWE TV for the first time. Once he didn't do that no returning to the ring, nobody cared. Same way Hogan in TNA, nobody cared because all he did was talk. Big names don't really draw by just being there. They have to do something the fans want. In CM Punk case, fans want him in matches. Unless they know that even possible and there was something that telling us ok maybe there is a match. Fans won't care unless they get that. Will it be a long term fix IF he wrestled week after week? I doubt it because the WWE booking will make him not matter if he is a face, just like all the other faces in the last several years that are not part timers. No face have been made to look good or remotely strong. He likely would end up with a feud with Corbin because regardless how bad ratings are, WWE has this hardon for the guy and he gets everyone.

yeah I don't see how there's much case to be made for it not all being on Vince. Which isn't to say that if someone else was in control that they wouldn't make some of the same mistakes, or that if anyone else is in his place it would be a flawless and perfect situation nobody would ever complain about. But the volume of problems and the things that are all so specifically on Vince and his demands can't be ignored. He's his own company's worst enemy.

No shit. Nobody's improving the ratings in the long term. Backstage is a show on at 11pm on a Tuesday on a middling sports channel that’s not in many homes across America. Not exactly a ratijgs goldmine.

Lol, why did you quote someone's questions and then not answer them at all? You mean like what you did by straight up missing my point? It won't matter what time or channel or how often Punk is on. He will spike ratings for a week or 2 and then they will bottom out. What time or channel he is on doesn't mean anything.

The ratings on FS1 at 11 on a Tuesday night would get the same ratings no matter what is on. They pay millions of dollars for talking heads to (at times) have 0 viewers. Nobody cares about FS1, especially at 11 on a Tuesday People want Punk to talk and wrestle, not just talk. Put him on Raw or Smackdown and it would give them a better chance than what they are getting now.

Punk is a perfectly serviceable, occasional co-host of WWE Backstage. It's still on at 11 PM on a channel that's basically a Poor Man's ESPN.
