Deonna Purrazzo debut promos started on Impact last night, Drake Maverick is in NXT Cruiserweight title finals, Kurt Angle is reffing a match tonight on NXT, and another team while not apart Covid-19 of releases showed up on AEW tonight. The flood gates are starting to open. It’s going to be interesting to see where everyone ends up. Please remember our rule about posting spoilers while the shows are still on the air. While I appreciate that you did not go so far as to name them, even alluding to it while the show was on is still a no-go.

Drew Gulak has actually been re-listed on the WWE.com roster, so maybe they came to an agreement and he’s not leaving. I'm catching up on FAN after a long long weekend but I read on social media over said weekend that he signed a new contract. I also saw on social media that WWE apparently has a list of talent they want to bring back when things start picking up again, and combined with {Spoiler}this apparent return of Kurt Angle as a NXT event ref, and Drake Maverick's continued use in that NXT tourney (which according to social media went very well in his favor last night) ........I'm thinking this may be an effect of this furlough; for some it was probably a flat out release, but for others was just a temporary stay on unemployment - or, since this is WWE and they're monsters I'll use more callous language, a way for them to keep that hook in the wrestlers to bring back when they desire.

Seems Observer says Nigel was one of the ones furloughed and that's why he hasn't been used. Very disappointed by that, they got rid of two of my favorite commentators in one swoop then.

Did anyone keep note of the wording of who was released and who was furloughed? Theoretically they’re very different, but with WWE who knows;; we’ve already seen Drake get more airtime now he’s no longer a full time roster member. I would think Nigel will be back, and I remember Brisco was mentioned as being furloughed and I’m sure he’d be brought back too.
I know it’ll be very different in the US versus the UK where I am, but I know people who were furloughed and are already back at work.

Bummed about Nigel, but if furloughed, could be a mutual agreement with having a child and maybe he's more concerned with staying safe at home.

I really hope Nigel keeps appearing and getting gigs in wrestling one way or another, he's one of the most deserving ones to get showcased and get well paid. When he was on the top of his game, he was best in the world. I also enjoyed him on commentary.

Commentators and road agents work for WWE as employees, not independent contractors, so that could have something to do with them being furloughed rather than released.

I think he’ll be back eventually (who knows when things are back to normal) But, if not, he was able to have his story told in a brilliant production by WWE and get paid for a couple of extra years. Plus, he’ll land on his feet wherever he goes.

I feel he one of the better announcers in WWE.
I forgot the whole story of his sickness and retirement, hypothetically does he have one more run in him?

Hypothetically he does but realistically he doesn’t. The last time Nigel was thinking of coming out of retirement was when he was part of a Kickstarter for the LA Fights promotion. The company failed to reach its goal so he didn’t return. Even that was years ago. Nigel was great in the 2000s, but he hasn’t had a match since 2011. If he returns I think it would be less Shawn Michaels returning in 2002 and more Shawn Michaels returning in 2018.

Idk if Nigel would still want to wrestle, he's 44 which in wrestling years isn't too bad, but even still he's great on commentary and would also be great as a manager
I have no doubt there would be multiple companies considering him for a multitude of roles when things return to normal

WWE didn't need to fire a single person, but they did anyway.

He was an ROH commentator before he went to the WWE. I feel if he had any interest in working he done it by now. Than again you never know in wrestling but unlikely I feel like.

So they release Nigel, who is one of the better announcers they have had in forever, bringing both knowledge and class to the announce position...But they keep Mauro Ranallo, who is an active detriment to not only every show he is on, but to every announcer he works with.
God damn, I am glad I stopped giving this company money.

Apparently Nigel was furloughed back during the initial releases so there is an expectation he’ll be back (presumably when travel opens up).

Latest reports via Meltzer are that WWE is still only doing temperature checks, not any employee testing for COVID. This came up because apparently they seemed to hint on air that people there were tested (I didn't watch, so I can't say one way or the other), but as of now they have not done any. Some people within WWE were saying they were concerned, given how UFC had people test positive after initially passing temperature checks.

Nigel is a great commentator, no argument, there.
