F*** Bill Simmons. The Celtics have had a few 30 for 30s. No one wants to hear you be a homer and talk about Boston. That shit used to get me mad when he would try to talk shit to Magic, like bro shut up you didn’t win those rings I mean, what else is there to talk about the '86 Celtics? Top 5 Team of All-Time, Bird at his zenith, 40-1 at Boston Garden, the Front Line, beat a young Hakeem. Anything I'm missing? No doubt he wants a series on the KG/Paul Pierce/Ray Allen championship team Celtics

The 2008 Celtics had to go 7 games against a Hawks team with a losing record and also 7 against Lebron and the Job Squad. Let's hold off on the notion that they would beat everyone ever.

I love the anger the Pistons still get out the Bulls, especially Jordan. Isiah Thomas has a point about the Celtics leaving without shaking hands in 88. The Pistons and Celtics didn't shake hands after the 87 series, but Lambier did go to Bird and Parish to shake, but it wasn't a team thing.
However, the 91 Pistons knew the Bulls always shook their hands and they weren't going to congratulate them.

If you haven't, check out his 30 for 30. It gives a great insight into him, and his early life. His dad left early, his mom was tough, a lot of times he had to take care of his younger siblings, he dealt with a lot of racism, and he thought about suicide a lot. Chuck Daly balanced him, and was the father figure that Rodman never had. When Daly left Detroit, Rodman's life started to unravel, he was getting a divorce, and the suicide attempt in the parking lot of Auburn Hills. Yea, I watched it a while back. One of the more heartbreaking things was see Isiah Thomas breakdown over Dennis. He said that man is crying for help with all this attention but can’t nothing be done His relationship with his kids too being up and down. Good to see he was finally getting in his grandchild life Can you imagine having Dennis Rodman as your grandfather? lol Those kids will learn about him playing professional basketball, winning championships, playing with the greatest player of all time, the colored hair, piercings, tattoos, kicking cameramen, headbutting a referee, professional wrestling, Carmen Electra, Madonna, the wedding dress, North Korea, etc. That's a hell of a life. My pappap served in WW II, and got sent home because he got really sick overseas.

I forgot what year it was exactly, either 96 and 97. But I hope they cover this topic. Remember when Ron Harper slipped on a puddle of spilled Orange Soda at Rigby's Grocery? The whole town of Chicago thought the dynasty wast ruined even with Jordan and Pippen healthy and ready to go.

That seems a bit much but Harper was a solid veteran contributor. He was also the absolute highlight of Episodes 3 and 4. His discussion of the Jordan/Ehlo play is instantly legendary, haha.

A few years back, NBC Sports Boston produced a two-hour documentary on the '86 Celtics and it was fine. It brought together all the key pieces of the team - Bird, McHale, Parish, Ainge, Walton - and they waxed poetic about how the glory days and what an unstoppable wrecking ball they were, but outside of Bill Walton, there were really no characters on that team. It was just a collection of extremely talented players brought together with a singular goal in mind: winning a championship.

The most interesting thing about those Celtics teams for people that aren't Celtics fans is their rivalry with the Lakers, specifically between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

The most interesting thing about those Celtics teams for people that aren't Celtics fans is their rivalry with the Lakers, specifically between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Plus that year's Lakers team knew they weren't beating the '86 Celtics, so they saved themselves the embarrassment that was coming in The Finals by gagging against an inferior Rockets team in the Western Conference Finals. The most interesting part of the '86 Celtics documentary was probably the portion on Len Bias, which, if memory serves me correctly, was Bird, McHale, Parish, and Ainge showing genuine heartbreak for the tragedy of Bias' death and also regret of never getting to play with the guy who was a physical marvel and would have likely carried the Celtics dynasty into the 1990s.

I mean, Larry Bird still hates Bill Laimbeer.

Pretty much everyone outside of Michigan hates Laimbeer. I even mentioned his name to my mom while eating breakfast a while back and she responded with "Ugh." What's amusing is that Laimbeer has the highest win shares in the history of the Pistons franchise. He led them in win shares 6 times from 1983-90. Speaking of win shares (or lack thereof) is there a more overrated player than Isiah Thomas? Thomas only had 1 season where he even had double digit win shares (1985, 11.2). Isiah only led the team in that category one time (same year). Isiah had some great playoff performances at times and he was nominally considered the Pistons leader and best player, but in 1989 Laimbeer and Rodman had higher win shares and W/S per 48 with Rodman having the best W/S per 48 on the team (!). In 1990 it was the same deal with Laimbeer and Rodman leading the team in win shares with Dumars being 3rd.
I'm sure they'll discuss the Dream Team at some point here and the Isiah snub, but realistically who are you going to cut to make room for him, especially when no one liked him on the team? The shooting guards were Jordan and Drexler, the two top guys in the sport at that point. At the PG spots you have Magic and Stockton, and obviously even though Magic had HIV he was of course the far, far better regarded player than Thomas (and in his last full season in 1991 Magic was easily the better player). By 1992 Isiah had a win share of 5.8 with a lousy .095 W/S per 48. Stockton at that point was the best point guard on the planet, with his win share in 1992 being 13.4 (W/S per 48 of .215). Isiah frankly sucked by then and given his unpopularity he was left off on merit. I guess they could leave off Laettner for Isiah but Laettner was there as the lone token college choice and wouldn't impact anyone in the NBA's selection.
