Why a scythe and not something like, say, a mallet?

Why a scythe and not something like, say, a mallet? Haven't seen the cartoon, maybe he's on a farm so it was close by?

I mean, Yosemite Sam uses a chainsaw in the amusement park cartoon. So it works for me, whatever they use.

Remember Wabbit or that New Looney Tunes show before this? Sam just used finger guns. Like literally pointed his finger as a gun.

Yeah, it's not like they banned the classic cartoons or will Lucas them (don't give 'em ideas...don't give 'em ideas...). Nor are they pulling merchandise or whatever. Actually, as I said, WB is usually good at not throwing the baby out with the bathwater, as they were known for providing disclaimers at the start of certain DVD sets.
Heck, if that new Popeye film ever comes out, he doesn't have his pipe! But you can still watch Popeye, pipe and all, on Boomerang's app all day. It's adjustments for kids' programming now. For better or worse.
And this is HARDLY a new thing, as I said before. Fox Kids children can tell you all about that. And when the old shorts were seen on CN in the nineties? Now THAT was an example of them cutting the old toons up. I also think a lot of current Transformers series gives the characters specialized weapons instead of firearms...no matter that said firearms in the TF Universe are usually laser guns. I think a lot of the MCU movies prefer fantasy weapons as well now.
Come to it, "protect the kids!" censorship has existed for decades. Just look at seventies SatAM, for instance...this helped make the Superfriends the campfest it was, as Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and others were reduced to becoming instantly helpless without their signature gadgets. Heck...this helped the whole Aquaman = Useless trope, as Aquaman - physical prowess - more marine themed episodes = USELESS AQUAMAN.

I also demand all my LT shorts end with the charecters in blackface signing a minstrel song otherwise censorship.

What was the most recent incarnation of Elmer/Sam that were allowed to use firearms? Just curious.

Watched that one Monday, it's still there on Amazon What was the most recent incarnation of Elmer/Sam that were allowed to use firearms? Just curious. In the video I posted, apparently the last time Elmer was seen with a gun was 2012, didn't mention Sam. Elmer's easier to move on to other things since he's had more roles, Sam's a bit more limited but I'm interested to see what they do.

Keep this thread on topic, folks. We don't need to hear what your relatives views are. What if one of our relatives had a hilarious Looney Tunes related demise? Grandpa really thought the umbrella would protect him when that truck unloaded its load of anvils all over him. His sad eyes & goodbye wave as he vanished beneath the pile have haunted me for decades now. But seriously, the initial video said this debuts on May 27th. Which has already come & gone. Did.......did they change it or has no one really watched them and is discussing the eps any further? ![O_o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/browraise.png)

You know what this reminds me of? POPEYE. Especially in the seventies.
Because while the theatrical shorts (and the KFS ones) were making rounds on local channels, Hanna-Barbera had made a new Popeye series for Saturday Morning television. Only, because it was 70s SatAM, and parent watchdog groups were, um, watching...the franchise had to be toned down greatly. Particularly Popeye and Bluto no longer being able to beat each other up. On a smaller note, Popeye had to make it clear that he didn't smoke his pipe, one PSA segment had him explain that he only used it as a musical instrument.
But...even with this sanitized Popeye on the air, no one took away the classic shorts.
