For a guy who ostensibly knows how movies are made, David Ayer comes off like he has no idea how movies are made.

Why are these people so insistent on getting special editions of their sucky movies made?
It flopped once, what makes you think it won't again?

It flopped once, what makes you think it won't again? because Zack Snyder's Justice League was watched by eleventy bajillion people and became the highest grossing movie of all time (when adjusted for imaginary money)

I mean in Ayers case he had a movie and a vision and the studio recut it to try and make it more like GotG. So it might be a better movie, or at least more consistent if he got to cut it his way. And while it may have been a dud creatively it did make decent money. I dont know if it was a big success compared to the budget though. Now in Snyders case he stepped away from JL and the studio gave it to Whedon who made a Frankenstein movie. Now as for why Snyder stepped aside was it all his personal tragedy or was he forced to as he was ignoring all of Warners demands (2 hour run time, more upbeat). Either way the theatrical release sucked. Warner got sucked into the Snyder cut BS because he basically lied saying it was done and just needed to be recut. Then he needed millions for more shooting and effects. And still ignored their directives trying to force Green Lantern in when they said no. So basically Ayer had a somewhat legitimate complaint. If he could do his cut without costing much I would give him a shot. But Warner right now never would unless they could release it in theaters and make a billion.

I saw someone seriously tried to blame the whitewashing of Harley and Joker's abusive relationship on the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad, and that the Ayer Cut would make people see the light. Like, people have been whitewashing Joker's abuse of Harley since the days of B:TAS even when the work was blatantly pointing it out. It certainly didn't start with that crappy movie.

According to figures released by Deadline only Aquaman had a better return on investment (BVS took more at the box office but had almost twice the budget).

I think it'd be better if we just did a Will Smith Deadshot movie with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn again. Those are about the only two aspects of Suicide Squad I liked. A longer cut is just going to be more Joker scenes and I cannot describe how much I hated Jared Leto's tryhard Joker.
Soundtrack was cool too, do more of that.

No cut is going to change that the movie looks like it was shot in dirt. The lack of sense of scale is incredible. It’s like they had a hallway and a street corner to film on.and somehow made the street corner more confined than the hallway. Every shot in the movie feels like if you turn the camera an inch in any direction you’re going to see a guy eating a donut watching the shoot.

So by all logic Warner should have done an Ayer cut for HBO Max instead of the Snyder cut. It would most likely have been cheaper, its a movie that already made you money so you are not throwing more money down a pit. And most of the "normal" people I know either like it or at least find it inoffensive so they are likely to give another cut a try. Instead they waste more money on Snyder. No wonder a reality show douchebag took them over.

No wonder a reality show douchebag took them over. The Ayer Cut movement was also much less visible on social media (not as widespread and a lot less bots spamming hashtags on top of it). It was sort of like the Snyder Cutters' sad little brother.
According to Ayer, the movie is essentially done and can be released with little fuss. But Snyder said the same thing about ZSJL and we saw how much of a multi-million dollar lie that ended up being. Can't say I'm surprised Warner even pre-Zaslav was gunshy about getting ripped off yet again.

As bad as Leto's performance was, could you imagine it looking like that? Kind of sad how they went with the least edgelord design in the final product. Also, I'm thoroughly convinced whoever designed Joker just Googled "Cool stuff" and went with the very first page of image results.
