Here in NJ, Gov. Murphy is allowing non-essential businesses to open up again as of Saturday I believe, with the caveat of only allowing online/phone ordering and curbside pickup for non-essential stores. Things are still bad here as far as numbers go, but everything's steadily going down: new infections, new hospitalizations, and overall deaths. And more and more people are recovering and leaving the hospital (due to improved health). We apparently hit our peak in late April. For anyone in NJ unemployed and looking for work, it also sounds like the state is going to be interested in hiring a LOT of people to work for their contact tracing program. I wish I could say the same for those in North Carolina but, they now have too many applicants for their contact tracing program. I want to give special props to my state's HHS secretary Mindy Cohen. She's been on top of this thing since day one.

The face mask is communism in the same way seat belts are. Now issues of public health have become a front in the culture war. Champion.

I wonder if there was similar backlash to seatbelts becoming mandatory, just without the social media megaphone, or if people were generally less stupid back then.
Had to put one of my friends on a 30 day Facebook timeout mute for acting like a Karen about wanting to go outside and now posting widely debunked conspiracy theory sites about the virus. And this is in spite of having a mutual friend who is not only a doctor, but is actively working with virologists and epidemiologists on the virus telling her how wrong these things are.

David Dunning and Justin Kruger must have their heads in their hands realizing just how right they were.

I know it's hard, but I don't think it's the right approach to just mute people for spouting debunked horseshit and conspiracy theories. The more they are allowed to be dumbasses, the more they will continue to do so. They need to feel repercussions to their insane behavior, and see the lack of support it has among their friends if there is any hope of getting them to stop. The more you disallow yourself or others from confronting behavior that is wrong, you just allow it to breed.

Trying to correct them are often viewed as insulting them personally. That is an environment for personal strife that will only spur bad feelings and not improve anything. I struggle to handle that now, and I’m a person willing to consider their points critically before dismissing them. If you have the energy to tread those waters, I salute you, but I get needing a break.

I went to pick up the kids lunch from their school Monday and no one was there. Starting Tuesday they were handing them out of a bus. Found out that one of the school employees tested positive. To think...the governor wanted kids to go back for the last month...

Drove by a local restaurant with a patio on the way home from getting dinner and, yeah, no effort to distance tables or anything. Not really surprising, but disappointing.

Florida goes full Phase 1 starting Monday...all counties. Most things that are open can go up to 50% capacity. Sports teams can start returning. Amusement parks can submit their reopening plans to the state.

So teachers are being called in to clean out their classrooms at the schools for the year. Teachers at one school here threw a fit because the principal actually followed the order and isn't just going to allow them all in the building simultaneously.

I have put considerable time and effort into trying to educate her on how misleading and wrong these conspiracy theories are. But she's acting like a selfish asshat and just doubles down. It's frustrating and I can't deal with it anymore. I gotta look out for my own mental well-being now.

Went out with my Mom on Monday for Mother's Day. Every other table was taped off for distance and waiters wore masks to cover their faces.

So Iowa barber shops were allowed to open today. I won't lie, I looked to see what the availability was. They are booked solid in Davenport and Bettendorf for the foreseeable future.

I was at Lowes last weekend, it was busy and absolutely everybody had a mask on. I am still working as my production of alcohol is essential and everywhere i go people have masks on and do their best to respect social distancing rules.
People in Massachusetts seem to be following guidelines. A lot of people complain, but they comply.

Gov. Scott extended the Vermont state of emergency until June 15th and is apparently going to be allowing some hotels to re-open in a limited capacity on May 22nd. Apparently people are going to be required to have a certificate saying they're virus free to be able to enter the state.
Meanwhile, idiot brother and sister-in-law (who had to be dragged into complying with much of this and still aren't really listening) are planning one of their usual trips to Florida next week. I'm doubting they even leave the airport.

Not gonna lie, my dog finally got groomed on Monday (that opened up last week) and I am very jealous of him right now. Hair and nail salons are still up in the air for when they're going to re-open in New Jersey.

My hair is getting pretty shaggy but I will hold off cutting it. I don’t think I could sit still for that right now.

My state (PA) is going yellow. I was going to pick up a bottle of Cap from the liquor store, and when I called today, they were open and doing walk-ins instead of curbside pickup. They will only allow 8 people in at a time though, that customers AND employess. And masks are required. So that was cool. I had to wait outside for like 2 or 3 minutes, but a friend of mine was there, and it was almost 80 degrees today, so it was no problem.
I really wish hair salons would open up, but apparently we have to be in the green for those. I literally just want the back of my neck and around my ears cleaned up. That will take less than 5 minutes. I checked my salon, and it said they're still closed until the green phase, but it also said they were open. I didn't call to find out what's up, but yeah...I hope they get to open soon. Literally, just a clean up would make me feel like a million bucks. 😊

Yeah, my hair takes like 10 minutes if that. But you do have to be in constant close contact with another person, so there's probably lots of precautions and procedures that need to get ironed out before they can open even with social distancing and masks between customers. Maybe when (or if) testing becomes more widely available.
