So it's safe to say, this is a Soulsborne type of game? Eh, not really. There are similarities, but once you get past the initial learning curve it becomes way more forgiving.

So it's safe to say, this is a Soulsborne type of game? I think if you stick to the main story in Act 1 youll round out the techniques needed to take out enemies. If you just go out exploring, like me, you’ll make it much more arduous.

So it's safe to say, this is a Soulsborne type of game? Not at all It can just go left fast. All it takes is two, three hits for you to feel it. You get hit by an Archer which knocks you off your rhythm and then get hit with a follow up attack and you're done You get abilities and stances as you advance through the game

Okay, I might take that back because I just did a mission and got the shit kicked out of me. I think I’m just not very good at this. I learned to not over rely on pressing the dodge button too much. When you go against bigger enemies, if you press it too much it drags you away from the fight and you lose the window to attack You just need to tap it off unblockable attacks which he will side step leaving you in range to unleash quick attacks Only when you get swarmed should you try to really hit the button but for me once I see that happening, I run to the Archer to take him out and pick off the rest as I don't have to worry about arrows in the back

So it's safe to say, this is a Soulsborne type of game? Naaaaa. Doesn’t mean you won’t die if you make a few mistakes, “forget your training” so to say.

The lip syncing being matched up for the English voice track is incredibly distracting and I’ve been playing for 15 seconds. Bizarre choice for a game that’s trying so hard to be Japanese. Should have been the other way around if they were so intent on aping the samurai film watching experience.

...Bizarre choice for a game that’s trying so hard to be Japanese... Hmmm I don’t think there was any intention on Sucker Punch’s part to make this game Japanese. If anything, their effort seems to me that they were trying to make the best Triple A Open World title they could to sell as many copies in the west, using feudal Japan as the backdrop, which even that can be construed as western fan service since the Assassin’s Creed never answered the “wish”. Probably why they prioritized the English dub.

Like Yakuza in a sense, that was made for Japan and got ported everywhere else but you have to have subtitles. Ghost was made here and it isn't really a Japanese game but a game set in Japan so there is a difference

Probably why they prioritized the English dub. It's more than just a skin though, it feels like they put a huge amount of effort into emulating something down to having a "Kurosawa mode", and they've done a pretty stellar job save for that count, which makes it all the more jarring. IMO if they were to have focused on the Japanese track and then did the English dubbing it would have felt that much more true to what it seems like they are going for. Just my opinion. I spent some time with it this morning and I'm enjoying it a lot other than the lip syncing, which just had me switch back to the English, it's not the end of the world, and the camera during combat being weirdly bad, though it doesn't take away from things too much.

Is there any weapons besides your two sword and bow? Yea, you unlock other gadgets as your legend grows in the world I haven't checked what else you get yet but off the story mission you get a bow and so far in doing side stuff and advancing my legend throughout, I got powder bombs and Kunai Keep in mind you will get special abilities through "legendary" sidequest as well in learning arts that teaches you new techniques for your stances

You better still have good hand and eye coordination
You going to need that for the Bamboo sticks to increase your resolve which is how you refill health

Man, this world is f***ing big
I've done like 3 main storyline missions and just been hopping around the world doing side shit and discovering areas and I don't even think i'm 20% into the map

I can’t express how beautiful this game is. I’m like 2 hours into it, just kind of exploring now and I discovered the area with the yellow leaves and I’m blown away! I seem to have a hard time remembering what to press to avoid the pole attacks, and had a bear kill me like 5 times while tracking footprints and pissed off a couple wild boars. This game is a masterpiece

It’s sounding like I’m going to get my ass whooped in this game. Have the same feeling. You both would be correct. But its only in the first 3-5 hours of gameplay in my experience. Im still in Act 1 but have done enough base clears and side quests to open up all 4 stances with select upgrades in each and the combat becomes dramatically more fun. I no longer use stealth unless there are hostages, otherwise I go dick swingin walking into a camp or group of Mongols and ice every last one of those motherf***ers in short time. And its fun as hell.
