I just saw this. Like Toys R Us, this was a big part of my childhood. It was radically different from when I was a kid, especially since they got rid of the animatronics. But it sucks if the experience is gone forever.

It's basically Microwave quality pizza but at twice the cost of Domino's/Pizza Hut which even if you think low of their pizza is a more fair price. Most of the people inside a chuck e cheese's are parents and their children playing the games but not buying the pizza,if the pizza was better or the price was more reasonable they would have sold more pizza's and not be going bankrupt.

Tell me all about Chuck E. Cheese's menu.
Only saw some history bits 'bout this place in some video.
I'm gonna eat 2 x Meat Lovers Pizza's with blue cheese, 40 chicken wings, bacon egg salad and couple litres of variable juices now, man! ->

They could have the greatest pizza in the world and they would still be going bankrupt. They were saddled with debt by an equity firm so any disruption to their business can be fatal, whereas another company would be able to survive. I am tired of people blaming these companies. Sure some of them may be short sighted, stuck in the past, etc. But they would still be surviving, potentially even able to restructure and thrive if not for these predatory equity firms. These firms overpay to buy these companies knowing they can never pay down the debt and go bankrupt, then be stripped for parts and the debt discharged. Company gone, jobs lost, and they make a fortune.

And just when they finally designed their mascot to be adorable and not hideously creepy.
I remember having fun at my local Showbiz Pizza/Chuck E Cheese a few times, mostly for the arcade games, animatronics and ball pit, but even during my 7th birthday party there I recall the pizza tasting like total ass.
Spent way more time at Discovery Zone, which didn’t have the game selection Chuck did and was more tailored for just running around.

Sometimes it's easier to blame millennials and smartphones and fortnite instead of a system that encourages short term profit maximization over long term growth that in effect causes long term damage to everyone all around except for the fortunate few. Because that's easier to fix.

I had a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese once. This particular Chuck E. Cheese was recommended to me by some other kids, and I had been looking forward to going for a long time. The recommendation came due to a play area called The Cheese Factory, which was a big multi-level maze that kids could run around in with slides and ladders and crawlways and a conveyor belt. The day of the party came, and me and my friends arrived at Chuck E. Cheese and excitedly headed for The Cheese Factory, and... they wouldn't let us in. The guard at the entrance said we were too big to play in there.
It was my 10th birthday. Chuck E. Cheese decided that 9 and 10 year olds are too old to play at Chuck E. Cheese.
f*** Chuck E. Cheese. I'm glad they're going out of business.

I had a birthday there once. Terrible time. Animatronics scared the crap out of me, and I vomited.

Didn't they actually start selling beer at some locations last year as an attempt to rebrand as more of a Dave and Busters type place?
Sure covid didn't help, but they've been doomed for awhile.

They've had beer there forever. Even in one of the old activity books they gave out in the 70's, "Beer" was a word in a word search. The CEC I used to go to had 3 rooms: the main dining room with the animatronics, the game room, and a third room that looked like a sports bar, which always had a handful of grown men hanging out in.

So are there any more kiddie restaurants with play areas and games and such?

Coincidentally enough, there are vinyl figures of the Showbiz Pizza "Rock-afire Explosion" characters coming out right now:
(I love that they included a second head to appeal to the FNAF crowd)

Both Chuck E. Cheese and Discovery Zone in Winnipeg closed down 15ish years ago. Kinda assumed they had died off everywhere Discovery Zone pretty much did. I assume The Legend of Groose was joking with that comment. That being said, DZ may be trying to make a comeback. A new DZ opened in Cincinnati earlier this year. The timing was unfortunate though, as the pandemic forced them to close about 6 weeks later. On Google they’re still listed as “temporarily closed,” although amusement businesses of this nature are now allowed to reopen in Ohio with restrictions. So whether they can come back & still have a successful revival seems to be up in the air at this point.

He's joking. CEC bought Discovery Zone's assets many years ago so DZ won't be re-opening. Not sure whether you were referring to my post or meaning Groose’s comment was a joke. Just to clarify, the DZ Cincinnati revival was a real thing (I’ve driven by that exit many times). I assume they licensed the name & concept. It was actually opened for about 6 weeks until COVID forced the closure. You are correct that DZ in its original form is long gone, though.
