OP would get along famously with my friend, everything Cody does gets under his skin ha
I....don’t mind Cody, I understand why he’s booked the way he is and I generally enjoy his matches although every feud so far I’ve preferred the other guy to win

I’m glad to see some people understanding where I’m coming from.....and that press conference was so gringe. Someone posted something like whenever Cody is in the screen he is always the center of attention...bingo!! It’s like he wants to portray himself as tbis Varsity basketball star, who’s got all these colleges after him, but because he’s “such a great guy” he allows himself to hang with the jv players.
I also read something about Hardy and Marry being the original choices to lead the dark order...and how a tape was sent to Nick and Matt cause Dark Order is “their thing”...but then it’s like “I then sent one to Tony and Cody” and then Cody is the one critiquing the tape.
Just rubs me the wrong way that Cody seems to atleast on social media, comes off as he is the only one behind AEW. Cody’s the one who “pulled” that guys match from Dark... Cody’s the one posting Instagram gym videos from the Jags gym all the time. Just little shit like that added up with his presence on AEW just 2 much for me

That's counter productive...

I like everything Cody does being overblown, that’s kind of meant to be the point.
Without all the smoke and mirrors (pun not intended) let’s face it he would be a bit boring

I see Cody more as a heel than a face. The smugness isn't fitting for a face.

I have no resentment towards Cody really, though I can do with the absense of weekly title defences, defeating all the upcoming talent week by week.

I can't hate the fact the stuff he does is overblown, because if you're going to make someone a star, you need to treat them like one. He gets reactions, he can wrestle, so they're pushing him. Fine by me.

Without all the smoke and mirrors (pun not intended) let’s face it he would be a bit boring Bingo, that's exactly where I am with it. It's intentionally overblown and I'm enjoying that. I also think that all the bells and whistles make him feel like a much bigger deal, a genuine star; and any challenger company needs a star with legit crossover potential. I know they have Jericho and Moxley but Cody feels more "homegrown" Plus let's face it, if that doesn't work, it's the easiest gimmick in the world to switch over to the Heel side anyway.

I think it’s the fact there’s a lot of overlap in AEW with feuds and storylines and Cody just kinda exists in his own bubble.

I don't want to jinx it, but this feud will lead wrestling into a new boom period: ..it will be this generation's Chuck Palumbo / Jamie Nobel / Michelle McCool.

Much like I said in another thread about how Archer and Cage have gotten this dated territory booking that is either a breath of fresh air or an eyeroll-worthy throwback depending on how you look at it - Cody's whole everything is either a huge positive or a huge negative, because he's so ostentatiously different. He does all these angles that are built around his network of relationships, big bloody grudges, going through hellacious challenges, getting long old school promos. These aren't bad things per se, and he does things this way because he is very suited to it. While he has occasional missteps with the entourage, he does have actual ideas for how to build a match involving a face manager or a valet; he has angles where his brother, his wife, his friends have played important roles that added to the story. Cody knows what his strengths are, and he plays to them, and the result is some good angles and good matches. But...it all plays very weirdly when he is the only person on the entire show who has all of...that. There does seem to be some effort to helping the rest of the roster start accruing the sorts of everything that Cody has to play with, but for now, his Very Extra New Old School Epic Saga of Cody is jarring even when it is good. I may be an outlier in my opinion here, but when AEW launched, I assumed and hoped that how Cody is booked now, is how it was going to be across the board. I think just about the only old school trait that has made it's way into other talents booking, and segments of the show is managers. I'm 28 years old so I dont exactly feel out of touch, but alot of the booking decisions and match styles are why I have more or less tuned out of even AEW, now leaving me with no actual mainstream wrestling to watch. I get the idea of "something for everyone" but some shit needs to be consistent throughout the show.

I don't have a problem with Cody booking himself like that. IMO, he's one of the top 5 overall talents on the show. He's worthy of the spotlight and his segments are interesting and more people should be making themselves relevant and come off as stars like Cody does.

I like Cody a lot, and I always watch his matches and segments. I think he’s one of the best parts of Dynamite.
