So What's Next For Lance Archer?

He's been doing a big bucket of nothing for the last month since he lost to Cody

Yea yea wait and see but after a hot start to his debut in Impact, he is in just "another guy" territory and lost a ton of steam. What can be done to get him back 

On another side note, while he is 7-1 the records in AEW is basically stat padding and don't mean as much. He needs something to sink his teeth into and stop fighting the jobbers and gatekeepers of the world. Thus far he first "test" he lost to a big name so I would like to see him get a notable name to feud with and get that W to add some credibility to his ledger

I get the impression that Archer/Cody may have been something they wanted to originally hold off for awhile but the pandemic changed things.

I would honestly move him to either a feud with Jurassic Express after they're done with MJF and Wardlow or even move him to feud with Hangman or OC

He develops a Captain Archer from Enterprise gimmick where he makes rambling speeches and often gets his ass kicked before inexplicably winning somehow.

It always seemed like they wanted to kill two birds with one stone. Cody and Archer didn't need the title for their feud but they were the biggest stars and it killed two birds with one stone

Hopefully losing to Janela at Fyter Fest, because feeding good tag teams to build up hosses is a really bad idea better suited to WWE.

Janela is as much a singles wrestler as he is tag of not way more so, so I don't think it's fair to compare this at all. The Jersey Boys literally just formed like three weeks ago. Both are normally singles stars.

I feel like he'd be an obvious candidate to face, even possibly beat Moxley for the title down the road, but idk if they'd pull the trigger

But him just going around and wrecking anyone he wants for now is fine with me. Wouldn't mind Butcher and Blade being added to Jake's manager duties, those three together would be a fun energy

With so many monster/hoss heels, I think someone should shift to a face. I'm not saying Archer should be it, but I think it would help build the small midcard. The "monster heel debuts, feuds for title, loses, ?" storyline has been done a lot in AEW, and the only way for it to finally have a payoff is for Cage to beat Moxley, at this point. I don't think that will happen, and Cage is going to be tossed onto the pile of a heel stacked midcard.

1. Mox reign has been hurt by the pandemic

2. There is no one built up really to take the title off of him

At this point, I think the belt SHOULD be taken off of Mox, maybe before Summer is over. No one is saying he couldn't win it again when fans are back. I know the pandemic has hurt his reign, but at this point I think there needs to be a changeup because him just beating hoss after hoss also isn't providing much suspense or intrigue. 

I think Archer could and it'd set up even a possible rematch down the road, maybe in a deathmatch similar to the one that they had in New Japan, when the crowds return. Mox winning the belt a second time for a crowd would still get a massive pop. That being said, they don't have to do this, but the option of going down that road I dont think is the worst one.

What I hope they are doing with Archer. Is building him up again vs jobbers on Dark and having him destroy Janela at Fyter Fest. While Cody has his glory of doing his open challenges for few weeks and beating Hager at Fyter Fest. Hopefully Archer and Jake Roberts call out Cody for another match. Saying they took Cody too lightly and won't this time. Setting up Archer beating Cody for TNT title at All Out. If this happens I think Archer will recover from damage of losing to Cody at Double or Nothing.


When you consider the rankings I hope that's where we are going. Considering MJF is number 1 setting him up for Moxley at All Out. While Cage is 2nd and closing to Mox can move him to third. While Archer moves up to 2nd and gets another TNT title shot vs Cody. With Cage going on to feud with Darby at All Out after he cost him title at Fyter Fest. With All Out being like this..

If they could somehow combine the Omega/Page storyline with Mox it would work perfectly. Both those guys are deserving to be champ and can carry a feud in the fall while they build other people up

The setup is right there with MJF. It's such a hard time for any face turns, as it is still a tried and true way to pop a crowd, and MJF getting comeuppance by Wardlow needs to happen in front of a crowd.

I agree that Cage should've came in as a face, and feel he might still have a quiet turn after his loss to Moxley.

If any of the hosses turn, it shouldn't be Archer. Wardlow or Cage is a better bet - Archer looks like a maniac and he's managed by Jake the Snake, it'd be downright wasteful to turn him face. Cage meanwhile has the look and offence to be a badass monster face/tweener, still managed by Taz but just destroying dudes no matter what their alignment is.

Anyway, on the subject of what Archer does now - I'd like to see the world title go Moxley > Omega > Archer > Page > MJF. Obviously AEW will have different plans than I do, but I think Omega sustaining a serious loss to Archer that Page avenges would be a good catalyst for the eventual Omega/Page match. I'd also like to see MJF take his first world title from another AEW "original", and I think Page/MJF would actually be a great feud. 

After the Janela match I'd like to see Archer move into a rematch with Cody (That he'd win) and keep the open challenge gimmick to let him build up a body count. Ideally he wouldn't lose it entirely cleanly. Maybe he'd drop it to OC or Luchasaurus/Jungle Boy after the faces run interference to counter Jake. 

[EP 54 is banned from Collision]

Hopefully lose to Janela, then lose to both Cutler and Avalon, them be repackaged as a mid-card comedy act. Preferably a dancing one.
