I don't think this would even make WWE that bad by the standards of the time. You barely saw interracial romances on TV even then. Yep, the early 2000s were extremely void of diversity and fair representation on TV/Movies. The kind of multiculturalism present in today's landscape is still really new and only possible through content creators working outside the confinement of Hollywood, cable, and network television.

Weren’t they already promoting an interracial relationship by then with Eddie and Chyna? He wa portrayed as controlling, abusive, and the announcers would always point out his 'Latino temper' whenever he snapped, but yeah.

WWE never really wanted to discuss Cody and Brandi being married and that was just a couple of years ago. The only reference at all to it was when Cody gave his speech after the Dusty tourney on NXT and she was in the ring, and even then there was no explanation given as to why she was there.
In fact up until the recent Lana/Lashley stuff I can only recall one other interracial segment on WWE TV (as in black/white) and that was the Desperate Housewives/Terrell Owens spoof they did in 2004 with Trish Stratus and Shelton Benjamin.

I might be opening a bit of a can of worms here, but wouldn't he also have been white Hispanic/Latino? That would perhaps blur the interracial line somewhat.

This was the beginning of Johnny Ace's tenure as head of talent relations, correct? Wasn’t JR heading up talent relations around 2000-2003, with Laurinaitis replacing him after?

To give a little bit more info during the interview she said she didn't want to name names but that she did have the emails to prove this is what happened to her.
The interview is really interesting because it shows how little has changed in the last 20 years, especially on the independent scene.

Based on her story, late 2003/early 2004. She mentioned it was when she was teaming with her boyfriend Slyck Wagner Brown on the independents and that was when they had their run in several different promotions.

Did she say that it was due to an interracial relationship, or who she was dating? Because SWB has a very public history of domestic violence

That's fair, but we also need to see the email. I fully believe that the likely story is that it was due to Brown being Black especially because his issues weren't widely known until a few years later, but this isn't as clear as it looks at first

In 2005 Trish and Viscera did a one way romance in that he lusted over her and she offered him sex if he beat Kane.Viscera never got the sex and Trish said a bunch of racially offensive things.

They wanted to do an interracial relationship with Sunny & Faarooq
Also wasn’t Dusty & Sapphire somewhat implied as a relationship?

So it would be around this time roughly.

A lot of the mentions about interracial relationships in this thread came off as fetishized takes on the subject at the time. Not to mention there's a difference between showing a fictional, interracial couple on TV for entertainment purposes and being accepting of real life interracial couples.
Also given who was in management roles at the time, this wouldn't surprise me one bit.

For a second I thought the OP said “in an interview with Dave Meltzer and Giant Gonzalas” and for a moment I thought about actually listening to Meltzers podcasts.

As some who was around 20 years ago...I don’t understand this. I know the culture really only recently took a major shift, but inter-racial relationships weren’t THAT huge of a deal in the late 90’s/early 00’s. No way. 80s? Yes, I believe it. Not for the time frame indicated.
