Maybe I missed the part in the articles, but where were they exactly swimming? Both of em, seems like it? Do you just jump out of the boat in the middle of that lake? That's freakin' dangerous activity for four year old. For adults too. No matter do you have a life vest or not... ' really hoping the kid won't have recurring nightmares about this. These sad stories just keep piling. Now I'm actually fine with the fact that I have not gone swimming this summer. Something I read this morning mentioned that her son said she got in the water to swim and told him to stay there........... and within minutes she was gone. This weekend was the 7th anniversary of Cory Monteith's death (and many people from GLEE are at the lake today), and someone found a comment Naya Rivera wrote about his death. It seems like it very sadly fits for her as well. Today is actually 7 years to the day of Cory's passing. So for them to find her body today of all days... I think we all knew there was zero chance of finding her alive at this point, but it's still just as tragic. At this point, we might as well change the title of the thread. RIP Naya.

I read that her son said she boosted him up onto the boat and when he looked back to her, she was gone. Officials believe she mustered up enough strength to get her son to safety on the boat but wasn't able to save herself.
Just heartbreaking.

It's not really an easy task to get yourself out of water. I myself can't hangout anywhere near docks, if I don't see any ladders near the water. Never mind trying to pull yourself back into a just rented boat, which you most probably are not used to climbing. Couple inches makes a huge difference. That's just the worst.

She was on a pontoon boat. I've been on those. I'm pretty sure they're designed to take out and party on the water. The ones I've been on, had ladders built onto them. Either way, this is tragic. And like others have said, I hope her son doesn't have any trauma from this.

The initial announcement of her being missing was already a freaky parallel to Shad Gaspard's story, but it turned out she also saved her son at her own life's expense. That's too sad.

Refrained from commenting till we knew what happened. So incredibly sad and brave.
Hope Shad is right there in heaven holding the door for her.

The one thing I am glad about is that those suicide/murder-suicide rumors ended up being bullshit. I'm sorry I even pointed out that speculation in the first place.

I'm glad you were wrong; well, you know, glad you weren't reporting a truth... But in the world we're in these days (he says, citing that things really have gotten so f***ing insane on a daily basis for real) anything is possible. Thank goodness we all seem to have a vestige of energy in us to not quite believe the worst of the worst in every instance..... but we've been given a lot of deal with and it's very easy to assume anything at any moment. *sigh* Found a clip earlier today on Twitter, of Naya (with Redd Foxx! they starred together on the short lived Royal Family show) on the original Arsenio Hall Show.

(unless you aren't a strong swimmer) If you can tread water, shouldn't you be okay? Maybe she got fatigued? Not trying to sound insensitive, just trying to make sense out of this.

And her son had a life vest on, so why would she have to struggle to save him? And I don't believe this pontoon boat didn't have a ladder or something so people could get back on the boat. I don't want to think the worst, but I have a hard time believing this was 100% an accident.

Same, it's odd that she could throw a kid on a boat, but not hold onto the boat. Maybe she was caught in the weeds.

I never attempted the "worst" but curiosity got the better of me as a kid, and I wanted to see what would happen if I stopped treading water in the deep end of a pool. Would I sink to the bottom? Nah, you just kinda float. I could totally be ignorant, most drownings in water without a current/or criminal activity happen out of panic or inebriation. If it is the worst, let's just thankful she spared her kid, and her fans can still remember her fondly.

The most reasonable scenario I can think of is that she pushed her kid onto the boat, accidentally slipped too much under the boat and started panicking from there. Similar thing happened to me as child and I took more than a mouthful of water. I was not in the middle of lake then, regardless. But yes, usually you kind of float if you just stay calm. Muscle cramps could be another cause.
