I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. When you were a kid, you heard someone at school tell you they heard that if you did a certain thing in a game, you would unlock a secret level or character, or that their uncle's cousin's best friend's brother's college roommate's next door neighbor worked for Nintendo, and they were making a Nintendo 64 2. Of course, almost all of these rumors were bullshit, but you were a kid and didn't know better.

When the original Final Fantasy VII was big I had friends up and down swearing there was a legit method to resurrect Aeris, without hacking the game or crashing it. Something about getting tissues from the battle arena and taking Cloud to Aeris’ Midgar house so he can mourn and initiate the quest, and I think there was a Chocobo involved. Dunno, everyone had their own theory they insisted was the truth.

Various Pokémon ones were similar, especially regarding Mew. Not quite a kid but loved all the San Andres rumours or alien, leatherface etc. Always felt unlikely but vaguely possible which added to countryside exploration.

My class all had rather perverse minds and they were always torturing the kids who were stuck on Super Mario telling them the Princess would get nude for them if they completed the new quest mode. They also said it'd be revealed at the end of that she'd reveal she was a man.

Of course there is the so called nude codes... for games like the Tomb Raider series and Goldeneye 64.
One I saw in a PC gamer magazine was for “Dark Forces” (for you young’ ens in the forum, Dark Forces was a 1995 Star Wars FPS Doom clone.. not kidding there were dozens of FPS games released at this time and most of them looked like Doom... except in Dark Forces you can free aim... anyway heading off topic)... there was supposedly like 50+ digit code you can put in at some point and Jan Ors who appeared on a mission briefing loading screen between levels, would appear naked. Of course it was total bullshit.. someone like “Guru” Larry Bundy would of covered this by now if this was real.
But this code was published in a actual magazine. Maybe they was supposed to be a hack or mod to go with it.
Plus there was supposedly a code you can put in Duke Nukem 3D for an X-rated version of the game... meaning, you guessed it, full frontal nudity.. by the strippers and incubated woman who beg Duke to kill them.. again.. total B.S, but I do know there was hack/mod that not only did this, but put hardcore pornography on the cinema screen in the first level.

Pokemon- Mew being under the truck near the SS Anne.
GTA San Andreas- Bigfoot being at Back O Beyond. I remember the first time I was there I heard a growling sound and thought it was Bigfoot, turns out CJ was just really hungry.

The “ghost cars” got me good while I was looking.. the game devs put this little trick in, were they put some parked cars on slopes in wilderness areas, so when you approached them and the game would spawn them in they would roll forward.. there is one in Back O Beyond and when I saw it moving towards me, I thought it might have been Bigfoot.

There were a bunch of Super Mario Bros. rumors that I dismissed as b.s. which turned out to be true, like the negative world, unlimited 1ups trick, and small Fire Mario. I also didn't believe rumors that Nintendo was working on a portable system until I saw ads for the Game Boy.
Then, of course, there was nonsense like Samus appearing nude if you beat Super Metroid in under an hour, and a code to make Orchid flash the player in Killer Instinct. Probably the most off-the-wall rumor I remember hearing was that there was a rare version of California Games that was full of profanity.

Sheng Long being a playable secret character in Street Fighter 2, a blood code for the SNES port of Mortal Kombat (and Ermac being a secret character), and the ever popular "Nudalities" in MK2.

That there was a green ring in the Legend of Zelda. There were a bunch of Mario ones too but I don't remember them off the top of my head.
Edit: I just remembered that being able to jump over the flag post was one of them.

That Mario 2 in Japan was more like Mario 1 and 3. This turned out to be true.

My friends claiming they saw SF3 in the early '90s. I recall one describing that one fighter was Vega in a more skull-like mask, and a Bison-like character with a screw on his head. Also, you fought ON Ken's boat rather than in front of it.
Looking back, I wonder if this was one of the SNK fighters he saw, or was he just blowing smoke?

Someone made a claim about how in Dhalsim's stage in Street Fighter II that there was an alleged code to make the elephants hit you.
Also, there was an alleged code to add profanity to one of the Mortal Kombat games. I know it was never true, but it's funny to think about that because people were so bent out of shape about the violence, but seems that violence is seen as okay when compared to profanity or sexual content.

There was a kid at my school that convinced everyone that you could rip Sonya's top off in MK if you used the right finisher sequence.

To be fair, Aeris' ultimate move cannot be accessed until well after her death. You cannot be surprised that people would assume there must be a way to get her back under that circumstance. Apparently they were just trolling us by giving it to us at that point.

Then, of course, there was nonsense like Samus appearing nude if you beat Super Metroid in under an hour I can confirm that one is BS. I got to the point where I could easily beat that game under that time even without the glitchy speedrun tricks that others have figured out. I even have done it with 100% items AND saved the animal friends.
