That there was a green ring in the Legend of Zelda. There were a bunch of Mario ones too but I don't remember them off the top of my head. Edit: I just remembered that being able to jump over the flag post was one of them. It's true that you can jump over the flagpoles in Stage 1-1 and Stage 3-3 but there's nothing beyond them except for infinitely looping space. See 2:00 into this video covering a bunch of Mario game rumors:

Even as a kid I knew there was no way to bring her back and used to mock my friends for trying. To be fair, Aeris' ultimate move cannot be accessed until well after her death. You cannot be surprised that people would assume there must be a way to get her back under that circumstance. Apparently they were just trolling us by giving it to us at that point. What, Grand Gospel? That's learnable in Disc 1. Steam/PS4/XB1 ports has an achievement for it.

the Playstation Underground discs actually have the full games on them but are on a timer so the quicker you are on the level of the game the more play time you get! Nobody at my school thought at the time how impossible it would be to stick like 9 full ps1 games on one disc but whatever, we all swore thats how it worked!
Somebody told me if you play season mode in smackdown 2 for 99 years you unlock JR and King and that also unlocks commentary during the matches.

Sheng Long being a playable secret character in Street Fighter 2, a blood code for the SNES port of Mortal Kombat (and Ermac being a secret character), and the ever popular "Nudalities" in MK2. Oh my local school playground we had a myth, a legend, similar to the "Nudalities". Now I believe that "babealities" or something like that are a real thing where the character gets turned into a baby or some shit... Anyways, on the blacktop the rumor at my school was that "babealities" actually turned the characters, male or female, into a hot nude babe version of the character. Obviously this was a rumor cause every kid sucked so bad at the games they could never do a proper finisher in any of them so basically everything in those games were rumor.

My mate insisted that Cloud was unlockable in Tekken. Maybe he was thinking about Ehrgeiz?

Sonic and Tails being unlockable in Melee was a thing that kept around for a while.

Going waaaaaay back... Someone working on the Smurfs game for Atari had worked on the Custer's Revenge game. There was a certain way for you to jump at the end of the levels that lead to an animation of something that shouldn't be in a Smurfs game... or any game.

The Bigfoot in San Andreas one was probably the most prominent. I spent hours trying to find that dude.
I also remember there being fake cheat codes for WWF Raw on Xbox that would allow you to unlock the member of the Alliance.

Actually you can get Aeris final limit break before she dies just fakes some grinding. But she don’t ever come back. But definitely got her final limit break. Also you can jump the flag poles on at least level 1-1 on SMB. But I can’t remember the trick to it. One of my buddies used to tell us his name was a code on Metroid. None of us believed him and gave him shit about it. Until he proved us wrong. His name. Justin Bailey. That’s a legit code for Metroid. That with a bunch of dashes I n the second rows. Rumors I remember. Nude Raider. Naked Sonya. Could unlock subzero and scorpion on NBA Jam and do their moves to the other players. All sorts of rumors about who you could unlock and be on MK. Including some out there names and they were usually a new color of ninja.
